I havn't really needed to use this facility but I thought I would give it a try. Found it really frustrating as the input levels are not showing and I couldn't record anything even though following the instructions. Its weird any ideas what i must be doing wrong?

Do others use it?

Regards
Peter

I tried to use it once or twice to capture an idea, and for reasons I can't explain I just couldn't make it work. I found I'd spend far less time opening a new song and throwing the idea down than I would pulling out the dreaded manual and reading up on the sound clip function. :?

The Sound Clip function is rather useless in my opinion. I used it once or twice, rather just load up a track.

The only real benfit is that you can loop and jam to yourself, I think.

Is there any time limit to how long you can record for using this function?

And according to the manual, "next time you record a sound clip, the previous one is deleted" ? Is this true? What if you save the sound clip?

A sound clip can be imported and saved into a song. Think of it as an extra pair of channels independant of the other 16.

the book wrote:
Sound Clip function
The Sound Clip function lets you record and play back an
input signal without affecting the recorder tracks. You can
use this as a sketch for your ideas for a song or arrangement.

The recording setup for a sound clip is the same as any of the recorder inputs. Again think of a sound clip as just two more independant recording channels.

Quote:
The post-fader signal of the stereo output channel can be recorded directly on a sound clip. For
playback, the signal will be sent immediately before the stereo output channel fader. (EQ and
dynamics cannot be applied to the playback of a sound clip.)

Quote:
When you record a sound clip, the previous recording will be
lost. Please be aware that the Undo function cannot be used
to recover a deleted sound clip. Even if you save the song
immediately prior to recording a new sound clip, the previous
sound clip will not be restored if you recall the song data.
NOTE
• A popup window will also ask you to confirm that you want to
exit the CLIP screen if you press a key in the Work Navigate
section or Quick Navigate section while playback is stopped
in the CLIP screen.
• The recorded contents of the sound clip are stored for each
song.

This is out of the 1600 manual but seems like I did think there was a time limit on a G. If memory serves , it is longer than the average song.

Where's Manual Boy when ya need 'em ?

for the 1600 (I don't know about the 16G), look at the bottom of page 36 in the owners manual...................the default setting is 30 sec..............if you keep going for longer than 30 sec, the last 30 sec of your playing before you stopped will be recorded..........in the utilities prefer screen you can extend the 30 sec up to 180 sec.

Thanks , I thought there was a limit. The 16 G is the same. I had to fire it up and poke around.

Sounds about right, I ran into it in the manual last night, turns out there was a option to extend time like stated above.
Thanks
