I received a 21 chord autoharp (my other one is a 15 chord) from a nice lady on E-Bay today. I serious need of strings (it's a pre 1967 vintage because of the angled tuning pins) as they were badly corroded and some were broken. A set of strings runs from between $50 and $125 depending on who you buy from and what type. Loop , Ball, or Ferrule ends are used by different makers and years. I thought about building a custom set and retuning a whole step up. then I figured that would be too much stress with 36 strings and was lucky enough to find this.Converting a standard 21-bar chromatic autoharp to G/D diatonicHe simply refelted the chord bars to his sing key and even supplied a spreadsheet of how to. 8) Chord bar spreadsheet Notice the string numbers and pitch tunings are in the lines and the chord bar felt positions (unplayed chord strings) are indicated in gray and the open strings have an X.

I thought this was worth saving as both of my autos have 36 strings and maybe someone else out there is wants to do one.

My new years resolution this time is to learn a new instrument every year.
Bouzouki or Oud maybe ?

Geno,

I have to hand it to you. Somet people have a menagerie of pets. You have that plus a menagerie of instruments ( and mics, and pre-amps). I hope those guys at the Banjo Centre are offering you a honorary position as part-time consultant. You would certainly have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to their customers. I also think your financial contribution should get a mention in their annual report!

You may find the extra time you have now is a blessing to pursue those areas others only dream about. I'm still at the basic guitar/drum machine/keyboard stage so I look forward to hearing of your forthcoming musical adventures.

I'm not too familiar with Autoharps or Ouds but there's a Bouzouki up at the local shop I sit down with on occasion. Very cool. Same fingering as a Mando. Would sound good on alot of different things.

The bouzouki (octave mandolin?) I messed with yesterday sounded much like a guitar.
