These things are dirt cheap for what they are. GC practically gave these to me with shockmounts for 10 bucks over a hunsky and a half. The perfect Margerita between them is priceless. Nice lined wood box , -10dB switchable attenuation , selectable low-frequency roll-off, and an interchangeable omni-directional capsule. Very similar to the old 900 series pencils (991 shock mounts are snug but fit). I'll have an A/B comparison to the 2 Blue mics tomorrow on the piano. I think I shoulda been using SD pencils anyway.

Very impressed with how one 604 pointed at the 12th fret and the bass roll off switched on sounds on the Martin D-18.

Having a close enough matched set of omni capsules is nice too.

Great deal. I think you'll like them XY'd on that piano. To add to my other post, I placed them over the hammers, but at a slight angle away from them towards the interior of the piano.

I bought an MXL604 last summer from Front End Audio for $100. I think it's a great deal. I'm using it to mike acoustic guitars. I think it sounds great. I recently bought an Octava 012 for $170, and just last night did a comparison of the two. I was suprised to find that the MXL sounded slightly better. A great acoustic guitar mike for $100! Hell, I've been known to spend almost that much on booze in one night!

I have both the MXLs (603s) and MC012's. The MXLs are a tad brighter and are generally my goto acoustic guitar mic although I have a slight preference for the Oktavas on finger picking stuff.

My bad...your Avatar just looks like a picture of the head of the Church of the Subgenius...a very detail written comedy philosophy/religion.
The "Jesus" like representative was a guy named Bob. :downtown:

You're not the first person to accuse me of that. 8)

Actually, true story, my mother's father's name was Jesus Martinez. :P

I laughed because I thought you knew! Your avitar is not a likeness, it's a rendering.
