Zoom has a new field recorder the H4.

It's pretty cool. I used it to record a live show last night, the sound from the 2 built in mics is incredible.

It's also a 4 track recorder... looking forward to using that to capture some ideas while I'm on the road.

It feels kind of cheap, but the recording quality is good... for less that $300 what do you expect.

I put a 2gig SD card in it and 2 AA batteries... pretty cool...

Wow... taking a quick look at the specs tell me that it can even record in 24 bit, 96 KHz. I'm interested in the 24 bit. 2Gb SD cards are very affordable nowadays and are more than enough for an evening of recording.

It even has phantom power!

I picked mine up yesterday and put it through the paces...

I'm impressed with the over all sound quality.

As an added bonus, it also has a built in 4 track recorder.

Thats pretty cool. Sure a good way to get those easily forgotten song ideas down.

Is it easy to operate... I mean without much hassle and 3-level menus  ?

I was able to get it to record without reading the manual.

I was even able to change it to the 4 track recorder as well.

Very easy to use.

Interesting little gadget. One wonders what one gets with the Sony model for $1500 more.

I did a comparison in the store... had the opportunity to see/hold both.

1) Pure titanium body... instead of pure plastic.
2) 4Gig internal flash... instead of the 128MB SD card enclosed
* Maximum SD card available is 2gig.
3) Real Analog level meters... instead of a digital display
4) Rechargeable batteries... at least zoom provided an adapter

For starters.

That's Ok, as long as I can use the all-titanium Sony-Logo as a new bling-bling accessory with my all-platinum neck-chain  .

I bet you can in fact even do hiphop with that Sony recorder :laughing6: .

In fact "Sony" is pronounced exactly like the dutch "Zo niet" which means "not like that"
