When I first started recording I would use track sheets. I would painstakingy store the position of every knob, every effect, every instrument, every mic... somewhere in the process, I stopped because I could tell by the sound what mic/effect/guitar I used.

So... do any of you use track sheets? Did you ever? What type things do you store

I do sorta kinda. Actually now I just print out a strip that goes under each fader. I mark which instrument or vocal is assigned to the fader. That way I don't have to guess which is which.

When I had my 16G, I used a snake and a patchbay, so I had my inputs labeled:
1-2 Electronic Drums
3-4 Electric Guitar
5 Bass
6 Vocals
7-8 Acoustic Guitar

I also would record
drums to tracks 11/12
bass to track 1

I guess at some point we become creatures of habit.

I use the track sheet Ron created some years ago, but the only thing I keep track of is what is on a given track...nothing about how it was tracked. I find I do so many layers and submixes that I couldn't possibly keep track of what's on all of those virtual tracks otherwise.
