Hi,

want to prepare to record my next blues project. I am a not so bad Harp player, live I always used my vox mike, sounds ok in live situation.

What I want as the result for recording is a slightly distored natural warm and bassy blues sound. I am thinking of using my boutique made tweed twin copy to get the harps amplified and mike the amp speaker.

Any tipps to het that dirty old blues sound?
Thanks in advance
Andreas

No direct experience but I would think if you're going for a 'dirty' sound you might want to use a smaller amp that 'breaks up' at a lower volume.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for input. Will try that and also pull out 2 of the 4 power tubes. Maybe a tubescreamer will do it for the break up, because the remaining 20 tube watts are really loud.

Hi, I am very new at recording but what i did was put a singing mic in to one of the inputs and the routed the sound trough one of the presets for distortion guitar. The 08 Heavy rock plus some reverb did sound good to my ear but i have no idea if that is what you are after or if this good recording practice. It does give you a lot different sounds...

Dirk,

thank you for the comments, but the AW2400 has not the guitar effects of the 1600/g.
I tried it in the past with my preowned 1600, interesting result but not the sound I wanted.

only ever recorded harp once, he was using a Shure Green-Bullet mic through a Crate amp which was in turn miked by 2x SM 58's, one was close to the speaker and slightly off-axis, and the other was for ambient pickup. the harpist was happy with the result

Oh yeah, those Bullet Mics are pretty 'dirty' too.

Have to talk to my wife, there are some cheaper chinese copys and it seems to be the christmas present for me. Talked about a Dobro to her, but still no chance. Have to try this again for birthday.

So far I am getting a decent harp sound with my tubeamp slightly driven (damned 20 watts can be loud) and a little cut on the highs at the amp using my workhorse mic, a sennheiser MD421. With a SM58 it sounds steril. Seems I am on the right way ...

Thank you all for the input
Andreas
