I just received the PLG150-VL board and I am just reading that adding a second PLG150-VL board would add Polyphony. But then I also read that a PLG150-DX board would add 32 notes. I am confused as to wether this DX board is the same as the VL board or can I just add a DX board and get the additional notes or do I still need another PLG150-VL to achive that?

Here is the exact text of what I am reading.
"The “Expand” parameter will be active only when you
have 2 or more PLG150 series boards of the same type
installed and polyphony expansion is possible. A second
PLG150-DX can give you a maximum of 32 notes of FM
polyphony in Expand poly mode. A third PLG150 can
give you 48 notes total.

All voiced boards (except the Vocal Harmony board which is an effects board used in the Performance Mode) add 32 notes of polyphony. So The VL adds 32 , the DX adds another 32 (both VERY cool boards). A third board will add another 32. I forget how many notes the ES allows , but you ain't got enough fingers even with 4 voices in the performance mode to max it out WITHOUT the add on boards much less with the added polyphony. Buy the boards for the added utility of the sound palate and don't worry about polyphony.

You wanna worry about polyphony ? Spend about $2500 , Buy a Dave Smith Poly Evolver and midi connect it to Mono Evolver for 5 whole notes of polyphony. When they say five they mean five. It's hard to play because you have to constantly watch the blue lights. (one for each note played and is my only bitch about the Evolvers) When Dave was making the old Prophets , they only had one note in the beginning.

I was under the impression each board added 32 notes. I have a friend that has three piano boards in his for the extra polyphony.

So, I need to add another board to be ab;le to play two notes or three notes (keys) simultainously?

Now that I think about it the AN board when used is only 5 notes total. Yup the VL board is only 1 note. (but the ES horn voices are full poly) The DX board is 16, The DR (drum) board is 32 . The oercussion board is also 32.

Hmmmmmm looks like they dropped the original piano board, I believe it was 32 as well because the whole board is dedicated to just one set of piano samples,

Where I got confused about the VL board is the last time I used it (killer saxaphone patches) I played a harmony sax part but now I remember I overdubbed the second sax,

Yup , 2 VL boards would give you 2 note poly with the extra board. Can you blow two notes at the same time on a sax?

When Yamaha talks about MIXING they mean PATTERN and SONG MODE. Is that correct?
