hey guys, hope you are all well. recorded some new songs and they're sounding good but i think we may have put the mic a bit too near the snare, giving us a bit of a "pingy" sound. Has anyone got any tips to get a more rounded sound using eq or effects.

Thanks :)

Ross knows a lot more than I do.

But to get rid of "ring" on my snare I use a one inch wide plastic ring put out by Remo, I think they're called "dead ringers". It's lightweight and dampens the drum just enough to douse that ring, yet still give you a crackin' snare sound.

Hope this helps, I feel your pain, real drums are tough to record. :)

Yep ......I was amazed how such a simple clear thin plastic ring changed the sound!

Not being a drummer , I also learned you can't fix a broken snare very long with a piece of string!

They make gels that you can put on your drumheads too. A set of 4 run about $8. I like them because you can carry them with you wherever you go and they are less expensive than the rings are.

I've used them and I've been more than pleased.

Well the sound is not actually pingy as you guys have taken it. What i'm trying to describe is a sound that is all contact and no body.
