Heya Robbie

Is there a way you can configure the BB software to 'remember' unvisited posts indefinately?

When I go to my other machine or close the browser window and return to the site, my unread posts are suddenly all read again.

I think it may be better if possible to set all new posts / replies to unread until they are read / marked as read?

Problem is the forum remembers the day and time of your last visit. It does not remember which topic you did or did not read, other than within one session. That is not stored in the database but on your local PC in cookies. So, the software looks at your last login (which shifts when you go to another PC), looks in the cookies if a topic has yet been visited, and stores every visit in a cookie.

Maybe phpBB3 has a solution for that, but I'm afraid it's the same deal.

Robbie,
I noticed in the past when I clicked on a link provided in the bed of someones post, it would open another window. Today when I clicked a link, it didn't open a new window and when I closed the page, the forum closed. Is there another way or do we just use the back button from here on out?

Thanks.

I can't find it right now. I vaguely remember having seen something like "activating link opens new window" but I can't remember exactly where/what it was. I'll keep my eyes open for that.

For the short term until it's sorted you could right click the link and select "Open in new window"

Holding down the shift button as you're clicking will do that also.

Yes, and also, tilting your head 30 degrees to the left, biting your tongue and closing one eye usually works right along with that.

I didn't forget this, but it seems to be more complicated to change than I thought. I found a modification on the phpBB support forum, applied it, but it doesn't work. So there must be something I'm doing wrong. If I only knew what it was.

I'll just keep tilting my head, biting my tongue and closing one eye. Seems to work nicely.

I'd pay to see that

Seriously, it should be possible and I want to know how.
