MRSKYGOD has this technique down for guitars and stuff as well but it basically involves.

1. Copy the track to another track and pitch shift the copy a couple cents up or down.

2. Add a little (couple miliseconds delay) to the second track.

3. Pan the two opposite each other on the right and left.

Alternately you can do three tracks ( 1 original plus two copies) keeping the original in the center and pitch one up and the other down a few cents and pan these out a little opposite each other.

Sure......I'm not a singer but , use the copy edit to another track , use the pitch edit to pitch the new track up or down a few cents. Don and I play with this extensivly with good results. I wouldn't go over 7 cents but 4 or so is probably about right. some add a few ms of delay or offset (move edit) the modified track a 10 -50 ms (experiment) behind the first to fatten them up. Don't forget you can pan each track and add any effects and or eq /dynamics. One side compressed and eq set as a hi pass filter panned is kinda cool as well.

Works great on keyboard patches and guitars too.

I am in the midst of editing and mixing one of 61's deals and he did this along with his backup singer's voice and it's killer!

Hi there, I've been away some time, had no time... I see that the forum is still very alive, good!

Does everybody know that there is a standard effect in the G that does exactly what you describe? It's called Dual Pitch and lets you set parameters like pitch, pan and delay. I used it to let a choir sound larger, with nice results.

It's a stereo effect, but you can use it mono also. Just use it as an insert then and pan both channels centre. You can balance it with the original track by using the dry/wet percentage at the bottom of the settings (it's named differently, but I don't recall what it is named right now), set it to 30% or so.

Wow,

That sounds like a time saver.

I wonder what the difference if any there are in the two methods.

Personally I think dual pitch is kinda cheesy. Might be OK for backing vocals. Never tried it mono. That might be a cool use for it. hmmmmm When I have time....................

Never use the dual for the same reason. I just follow a formula that I think CEOwner (called himself something else at the time) posted long ago at the old forum. Copy, insert or delete 5 to 20ms on the copy, and pitch shift + or - 3%. You got to watch the offset on vocals though...I found that at least for a male voice, more than 12ms or so and things get weird.

So the pitch shift under the edit button sounds better? Ok, cool to know. Maybe I'll do a one to one comparison one day.

BTW. Has anyone ever wondered what the difference is between Efx1 and Efx2? Some effects are only allowed on Efx2 (the high quality pitch, I think, there may be others). Why is that?

I've only pitch shifted about 2 or 3%...beyond that I couldn't tell you how it sounds. I just know the one time I tried dual, I didn't like it.

As for why some things are available on one FX processor, I really don't know accept to say that it must be hardware/firmware architecture compromises.

I think you're right, but wouldn't it be nice to know what the compromise really is? Maybe there are 2 DSP chips in the machine, one for each FX unit. Hmm.. maybe the mixing stuff is done also on the first dsp, leaving Efx2 with extra cpu cycles. Some day I will take it apart. :)

i tried the dual pitch thingie.
weird.
when you turn it on it's like L = +13 and R = + 7 so you have this low slowed down record effect.
i messed with it a little.
it could be fun i quessif you work with it some.
thanks for pointing it out.

For what it's worth, I've tried the dupe track, pitch shift method above and have had excellent results with fiddle, flute, acoustic guitar and some vocals. But as others have warned, you need to be easy with it or it does get wierd.

I've learned more in two nightshifts than I have for months!
Four days off now and I have got lots of experimenting to do.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions, my new toy is getting more interesting all the time. :D :D

As posted elsewhere on this site...another possibility is to just play/sing the part twice...
