Turn the power on then use the following key combiations.

UTIL + HOME = full assembly diagnostics
UTIL + [1-16] = MAIN sheet diagnostics
UTIL + [17-24 RTN] = PN diagnostics
UTIL + MON = SUB sheet diagnostics
HOME + MON = Reset boot-up

Nope this ain't in the manual.

hey fordick, I'm a new member and already was able to use these startup codes to solve a small glitch I had. THANKS!
On a side note I was wondering if you know how to get the picture of the penguins on my display screen?

I'm assuming you mean get the penguins off your display? According to some information I found surfing the world wide web, the yammie folks used to call their recording interface "Penguin Logic". therefore I guess back in the early 2000's they powered down the unit with penguins. I doubt there is anything one can do about it. If the unit is recording, playing back and burning your recordings, then I highly recommend when you hit shut down, you promptly close your eyes until you hear the motor cease to run. Case solved.

HEY rz,
You're close, but what I really meant was that there is an actual photo of penguins displayed on the screen of some aw4416's. The yahoo 4416 forum has a picture of an aw4416 with the penguins I'm referring to. For clarity, Not only am I ok with the nintendo looking penguin I currently have, I wish to aquire the penguins in the photograph. However, I read in that same forum those penguins only show up when something has really gone for a sh..
