Oh, c'mon...you and I both know that his 'orrible cockney accent nearly ruined Mary Poppins......that and the fact that the "Step in Time" chimney sweep number goes on for about twenty minutes.

Yeah, I know. There's proper British, there's cockney, then there's Dick Van Dyke chimney sweep. Three very different things.

Actually, a year or two or three ago, Anndra put up a link to a site with multitides of recordings of folk from all areas of the UK - sort of a study of the various dialects. It was most interesting. It made the "proper British vs. cockney" thing seem the equivalent of saying there are two kinds of guitars - electric and acoustic.

I'm English but not sure of the accent you need . I am not what we English call "Plumb" which is the very posh and sounds like you talk with a plumb in your mouth.

Well , I think most English think of Americans as that Brash naughty nephew that we Tut Tut at , but privately would like to be, and we feel closer to than our cousins in Europe.
Though from my visits over the years it seems to me that America is changing with the Black people now becoming the upper middle class , and the Hispanic people growing in number at a scary rate... but then I suppose we all change , London is starting to feel like Eastern Europe and change is not always a bit thing.

No worries, am out today ( anniversary) , but am teaching(guitar) tomorrow so will have guitar stuff set up so may have time to play around then.
I am racking my brain for some good accents. I have a female friend with a very Plumb accent , so I will see what I can do
