Thanks Uncle Ron!

My eldest turned 11 today.

Yesterday was the party for her school friends (including the neighbour's children and a cousin). We took the children wall climbing which they enjoyed a lot. After that: french fries, apple stuff and a snack. Good stuff!

Today we had the party for our friends and the family. Lots of cheese, and I'm tired (but very happy).

Happy birthday Lotte.

Piano lessons are a good thing, I`m self taught in everything I play, but I wish I could play the piano a bit better, I get by but not as good as I would like to be.
Reminds me of a story my dad told me about when he used to go to piano lessons, for six months they tied his right hand behind his back and he had to play only using his left, and the following six months tied his left so he could learn with his right, then after that voila, he took up the saxophone. :)

My piano teacher used to rap me on the knuckles with a pencil. "Curve your fingers". One year. that was enough for me at the age of 8 or so. If she had been nicer, who knows, I may have become a rock star - instead i quit - and was relegated to roadie status in later years.

I work with a teacher whose signature quote says something like

"in years to come your students won't really remember what it was you taught them, but they will remember how you made them feel."

That is something that I myself as a teacher should more be aware of, although I have made progress.

In this regard Lotte's piano teacher certainly is doing a good job.

I read a marvellous quote in a novel where a teacher defines his job as being like the first stage of the Apollo moon rocket. According to him, the teacher should help lift the pupil out of the planet's atmosphere and then fall quietly back to Earth, his job done. A perfect analogy.

Happy Birthday Lotte!

Happy Birthday Lotte! You're pretty brave to climb that wall!

Robbie, they grow up so quickly! 11!! I'd like to be 50 again, haha! But my eldest daughter just informed me that I'll be an Opa come July; great news!

Family is everything.

Cheers, Randy

Thanks, gents! Lotte is 12 now and turning into a real "lady".

Congrats Randy! It must be awesome to be a granddad (which is something I hope not to find out for at least another 10 years ha ha ha).
