Hi there i am using an aw1600 and i would like to ask: can anyone please enlighten me on how to compress or duck the bass track to the (kick drum) trigger?
The manual says stuff like 'keyin is activated to the left channel' which sounds chinese to me!
A simple step by step would be very appreciated please..
Also, what do you think of the comp in the aw1600? Is it good or should i stick to the dbx160a?
Anyone taking the chore :P ?

The KeyIn has four choices

- self - Dyn triggered by material on track

Left - Dyn on target track is triggered by the channel to the Left. So if kick is on 7 and bass is on 8, bass would be triggered by kick

Aux 1 or Aux 2 - Dynamics is triggered just before Aux master send level. So,for example, you could trigger the Dyn on a bass by the combined activity of, for instance, the kick and floor tom, or any mix you wished to create on the Aux bus, or an individual track if that is the only one dialed up on the bus. You would have to experiment to get appropriate levels in order to get the Dyn processor acting as you wish.

the Dyn on the 1600 is good, IMHO, but outboard gear may be better/dfferent. I often use Wavs compressors from my y96k card on the aw2400. but the on board DYN works very well too.

How do you route your outboard gear, in order to compress a track on your 1600?

Pg 96 in manual

Thanks for the GREAT answer.
Very exhaustive.

Usually i use outboard gear, using the aux outs and any track in.
But i find it fiddly, expecially getting the levels balance right. But eventually i do get there.
I am not so good at this, i am used to mixers where you actually press a button and turn a knob (i am not a DAW type so percentages dont mean much to me, i use my ears).
So sorry for the noob-like question, but you laid it out so much better than the manual!
Cheers
