I purchased a Focusrite ISA One preamp to use with my Blue Baby Bottle and my AW1600. I got a warning from the seller that I should run the Focusrite's output through the "line" jack of the AW1600 to bypass the AW1600's internal preamp. After looking at the block diagram in the back of the book it appears that the Mic/Line" jack still goes through the AW1600's internal preamp. Is it possible to bypass the internal preamp of the AW1600 with the external preamp signal or am I just going to have a good preamp feeding a lesser quality preamp? :-k

There's no way to bypass the internal preamp. Just run a cable from the Focusrite out to the AW1600 input and turn the AW1600 preamp gain all the way to the left (LINE). Turn the phantom power off on the 1600.

There might be some minuscule effect from the 1600 preamp at lowest gain, but I doubt you'd hear it. Probably would take some measurement equipment to see it. Most of the 1600 preamp problems noticed are when you turn up the gain.

Welcome to the forum!

Yep welcome. Ralph is correct. The best way is to choose one of the XLR inputs of the 1600 coming out from your preamp. Mic into pre. I sometimes use a little of the yammie pre and some of my outboard pre depending on the noise level. Lowest noise combination wins. At the end of the day, finding the best mix will be up to your ears.

I completely agree with what everyone has said thus far. I've used both a stereo tube pre-amp and several other pre-amps that provide phantom power and up to 64v of power.

Experimentation is key!
