Ladies and gentlemen,

I received a lot of submissions in the last couple of days. 8) 8) 8) 8)

If you want to help, please check the compilation CD page http://home.planet.nl/~apere006/aw16gcd.html and see if I did not accidentally forget anything.

Thanks!!

Robbie

Look at the page http://home.planet.nl/~apere006/aw16gcd.html, Dave. We discussed it and made a decision.

To keep everyone posted:

I've ordered samples of several types of CD's, CD boxes, labels and other materials. It should be here withing a week.

Drum is having a go at the artwork and he will definitely need some time for that.

A couple of submissions are still on their way to my mailbox.

If someone thinks he can still submit within, let's say, a week or two, please do. Plenty of room on the CD's.

Please keep an eye on your PM box, in the weeks to come I will have to ask several people for some specific info on the songs. I will need that information for the booklet I'm going to include.

Thanks!

So far, it's been fun and I look forward to completing it.

Rob

I am a bit disapointed that you have exteded the deadline on this...
I worked fevoriously to get my CD into your hands by the deadline, and now I see all these extensions...Plus, I agreed not to relase the song to Radio G because of the March 1st deadline. Now that the deadline has been ignored, am I free to release the song to other outlets?
Please let me know how you feel about this, Robbie - I am confused...
Bud :?

I, for one don't mind a bit Robbie. Don't be disapointed Bud...these things happen. Just means more cool stuff goes on the GCD.

I did not exactly extend the deadline, Bud. I'm already busy with some organisational aspects albeit not too quickly. I already have a good idea of what it is going to look like (which is necessary to be able to do anything organisatory at all) and that was only possible because most people could submit in time. A couple are still on their way and I have a clear idea of what it is going to be like too.

So there is not really a big difference between having all at once in time, and then me starting to work on the project, or have most of it in time and me starting on the project while a couple are still in the mail on its way.

I hope this takes away your disappointment, Bud, but if not, I'm sure receiving the compilation CD in some time will take it away.

DJ, you gotta be kiddin' me. We're talking Robbie here. I knew the moment he set a deadline that it wasn't. I for one am taking the liberty to add yet one more tune.

Whatever Dave...
No I'm not kidding you. A deadline is a deadline.

Robbie, that's cool, but I would of had time to do more post production to my song or to add a second song, if I had not stuck to the deadline.
I do appreciate all the work you and others are doing for this project, I am just confused...

Sorry, D'j...wasn't trying to step on your toes. But Robbie is Robbie, love 'im as I do, and Randy didn't do much different with his floating deadline.

Bud, if you feel you need to do a better job with your submission, take the time to do it. Knowing Robbie, he'd rather hold things up for you to be happy with your work as opposed to doing less just to meet an arbitrary deadline. Not that I mean to speak for him, but I know his heart. He'd rather go on a diet than to live with the fact you are not happy.

Right, right and right again, no it is not a matter of "floating" but you'll understand in 2007 when it's your turn, right again and rrrrrright.

Wrong.

I'm busy with it guys. I do need the majority of the submissions for that and I have it. If everyone were to think "I could have submitted later" then strictly it is true, but then I could have started later.

Again, I'll work my butt of for it, but for instance at this very moment I'm waiting for the sample CD boxes to arrive and after that there are a lot of problems to be solved, materials-wise. In the meantime I'm thinking about how to determine a playlist. I'm going to need Randy on that.

Paging 60's Guy.

Randy, what did you pay attention to, determining the order of the songs?

Rob

To be honest, Robbie, it was a fairly simple matter for me because of the diversity of music supplied which made it much easier. I don't know how many songs you are dealing with, but as you know there were 32 songs last year.

First off, I likened it to a band playing at a dance. Start off with a few strong songs and then soften it up to give people to dance slowly with their significant other, or in this case, give the listener a relaxing breather. Does that make sense to you?

Secondly, there were some contributors that had supplied multiple submissions, so I made sure that they had at least one tune on CD 1 and the remainder on CD 2. You'll notice that DC and Short are on both discs, for example.

I need to repeat that the submissions I received were such that it seemed the pieces all fit together naturally like a jig-saw puzzle.

Realistically, it isn't for anyone else to tell you what to do. Juggle things around over and over again until YOU are satisfied. You'll do fine, I'm sure.

p.s. I lost of how many times, but I do KNOW I listened to each submission at least 30 times.

Yes, diversity is the common denominator here and I like that very much.

I have a good idea of how I want to handle it, but it's easy to overlook aspects that may seem so obvious, and you've done it all before so I'm going to ask anyway :)

Thanks for the advice so far Randy. I will be asking more in the near future.

How about a hard side and a soft side?

Personally I'd find that a bit boring to listen to.

Yeah, but ya know, Randy...I used to arrange gigs like that. Break things up each set. But over the past three years I see that people like to have more homogenity (did he just say homo?). So, I went to a formula that had the first three of four sets start slow and build, then the forth starting with something that made them jump out of their chairs, then something slightly lighter, slow dance, and the last 6 hard foot stompers.
