Thought I'd throw it out there. I was thinking if we wanted to tackle it how about all covers?(I've been wanting to do a Monkees cover.)

Don't have to do a mass cd mailer, just create a master 2010 file and upload the songs. Then everyone can download and make their own cd. And to take it a step further, what about inviting friends or family to submit their stuff. Just a thought.

Any interest?

The simple approach ( uploading tune submissions, printing your own artwork, and downloading the final content ), seems like the best way to get a new Comp CD off the ground.

I have a cover already recorded, that I was going to submit to the last 'comp CD' project that fizzled out, so yea.....I'm ready to go, if folks want to put together a new Comp CD project.

sounds good to me. i'm happy to contribute a track to it (once we decide whether we're doing originals or covers)

Me too. Summer holidays just started so I should have time and peace enough to make something.
I could make a separate CompCD 2010 page on www.dijonstock.com with an upload facility, like the compCD 2005 and the webbased mp3 player combined.

It has a few limitations though. There's no occasion for mastering the complete CD. Separate songs can be mastered by the artist, but mastering also includes the complete CD as a single object.

In the meantime, I hope more people will contribute to the webbased mp3 player. It now holds 60 songs which is about 4 hours worth of music. Uploading is easy and doesn't need any admin involvement.

I've been working on more pages of the site. The comp cd 2005 is uploaded and I'd like to upload the others (04 and 08) as well. The web radio is working properly now, and at the moment I'm working on the docs page. I'm learning a lot of techie stuff along the way and I enjoy it a lot.

Oh, we were talking about a 2010 comp CD. :)

I am interested! I've had a desire to record a cover version of "Across The Universe", and for one lame reason after another - I didn't get around to record it.

Is there a deadline?

I hope a few others jump on board as well.

I've got one in the can I could dust off and send along. Was done very early in my AW learning curve, but would be fun to revisit with the gear and understandings that have grown from that time.

If peeps want to do it, then we just agree, submit and upload. Wherever Robbie designates space is good.

Hi,

we seems to play a gig in the biggest hall of my hometown in november. Will record that evening and will do a contribution from that evening (maybe a Jam will happen there with Robbie on bass, as we discussed last night in the chatroom!!!).

That was a gouda one! Here's a cover of a cover of a cover I recorded with just me and my guitar a while back- it's a bit rough around the edges:

Love it. No pretences, just the pure stuff. Simple and clean. Love it.

Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails). Cash's video impressed Reznor.

I think covers are more interesting when you don't get to choose them yourself - working on a song or a style that you are not familiar/comfortable with is interesting. As an extreme example, imagine Howlin Wolf doing a cover of Mary Had a Little Lamb.

If someone wants to choose a song for me, I'll do it. I reserve the right to decline the song if I know it well. I am happy to do the same for anyone else.

Bring it on !

heh, you're a braver man than me Oscar.

i've just about finished my backing track for my cover of The World I Know by Collective Soul. nothing fancy, it's just a straightforward standard rock ballad, but it'll do for now
