although the CD project itself is not going ahead, i wondered if any members had already done any tracks and if so, if they were going to post them so we can have a listen?

on a similar note, what's the most favoured method of song hosting - some people seem scared off by the FTP and a public hosting service might not be the best idea for covers, which might be seen as copyright infringement because they're publicly available (but i think hosting them privately here would be ok, as they're primarily for study/education/critique purposes only)

Yup. I sent one off. I don't usually do covers, especially from that era, so it was a good learning exercise. I've just filed it for now.

Yes, I did one song ( a cover of Al Stewart's 'Song on the Radio' ) for the 2009 project. I never sent it off, but it is complete.

I've never posted it on any of the sites that host my songs ( like myspace, broadjam, etc ), because it's not an original tune. It is however, uploaded to 4shared if anyone wants to have a listen.

I enjoyed the listen UTAH. Relaxing. Great production quality. Hope some more good listens turn up on this thread. I'll search through my stuff to see if there is a cover that qualifies. We did a cover of Harvest Moon some time ago. I'll dust that one off when i get home.

this song still has a few dents that need fixing but i'm unlikely to get around to doing that soon, so it will just have to stay like it is for a while. it's a cover of an old Pink Floyd song 'Comfortably Numb' from the album 'The Wall' (1979)

Clive, that was an absolute pleasure to listen to. I especially love the subtle keywork which gives the song the same athmosphere as the original song. Top work on the mix, it's hard to have the vocals sit well within it and you did a great job.

Clive!!! Awesome cover. I know a guy that could provide better sounding drums.........not that they didn't sound good on your version. Good job on the vocal harmonies as well. One of the best covers of it i have ever heard!!!!!!

yeah i do too, there's a couple of guys i know locally who are good drummers, but they'd only have 2 tracks to work with and they prefer doing original stuff. what i used is an Akai S3000XL sampler that i sampled my friend's Brady kit into and sequenced real time in Sonar. but i can only do drums as well as a guitarist can do drums, heh i.e. nothing fancy (and the stereo pair drum track is given some reverb effect - meaning kick, toms, hats, everything gets it. horrid but quick.)

If you're learning how to read music, you've got me beat right there. I play 100% by ear, and I don't know the names of most chords that I play. When I get around musicians who can 'talk' music theory etc....I feel like a musical idiot...lol.

You'r still the better musician. After all it's what you play that counts. ! And you have way more snow than we do too !

I am currently playing in a studio band and we have about 13 songs in various stages. We are in my friend's studio every Wednesday night. We call ourselves Wednesday Night Purple (WNP) since the studio is called "The Sound of Purple." It's a blast. We've done a couple of other people's songs too. I like being in a studio band.
I did a CD for my family on the AW16G of some of their and/or my faves that I have played over the years. That was fun.
