"What you gonna do" - Pablo Cruise

massive undertaking with my meager skills...

my buddy will lend a hand where needed, he's about 2 notches up from my playing ability.

this is going to be very interesting...

Pablo Cruise.

One of my favorite bands.

When I was performing in a band singing the line "Baby Come Back" was pretty emotional because it seemed I was always begging some chick to come back to me at the time.

I'm pretty sure I will be doing "Listen to Her Heart" which is the second single from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers' second album, "You're Gonna Get It!". It peaked at #59 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in October 1978.
Unless I change my mind and decide on another song, which could be possible.

Great choice! I'm also a big Petty fan and that's one of my all time fav tunes and Album. I'm looking forward to your version!

The Heartbreakers put out some awesome stuff on their early LPs.

I will contribute and mine is already complete.

Gonna submit the Bartman version of the Rolling Stones "Paint It Black" I did a while back. Recently remixed it and now have the drums sounding PUNCH -AYYYY !

Let me know where to send the file and whatever monetary contribution.

Thanks Randy!

PS- I'd also like to sing lead vox on a collaboration version of "Lucky Man" by ELP.....any takers?

my most likely contender at this point is either 'Pictures of Home' by Deep Purple, or a heavy version of 'Eleanor Rigby' by an old Australian 60's band called the Zoot (whose members included Rick Springfield, and Beeb Birtles who later formed Little River Band)

(or 'Junior's Farm' if i get lazy...)

subject to change without notice, depending on how crappy they sound

Hi guys,
I've been recording a CD of covers for my family. You know things they always here me play plus some songs I love. Am I too late for this? If not I think I will submit my cover of Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End.
Good idea Randy!

Count me in.

I'll do "Alone Again(Naturally)" - Gilbert O'Sullivan or
"Brandi (You're a Fine Girl)" - Looking Glass.

I've been all over the map, in terms of songs that I thought I might do.

Right now, I'm thinking of doing 'Itchycoo Park' by the Small Faces. I've been watching old clips on youtube of the band doing the tune. The guitar/bass/drum parts are easier for me to play, but I've been spending some time trying to learn the organ bits. I'm not much of a keyboard player, so I'm really learning the Organ parts by ear and by trial and error on the keyboard. It's starting to come along. The hardest part for me on any cover tune, is doing the vocals.....so regardless of what I do, vocals will be a challenge.

But, I like the concept and I'm still doing a lot of searching to come up with the right tune or tunes, to work on for the project.

I've always liked the Faces. And speaking of challenging vocals, I've been thinking that I've never sang, even once, in any studio session through the years. If you'll all go easy on me, I may give it a try, a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing. I've been thinking of some old vocal tunes that could use some slide guitar and remembered "Day After Day" by Badfinger. If no one's nabbed that great tune, I think I'll give it a very long shot. What the heck. It's all among friends here, right?

that was on my shortlist, but you're welcome to it - i might have a crack at 'No Matter What' instead, which is another one of theirs. (and i still have Baby Blue in the can as a fallback)

I'm very much looking forward to a Utah version of 'Itchycoo Park' by the Small Faces.

Hi Clive,

I'm a Badfinger fan from way back, and "No Matter What" is my favorite tune of theirs. "Baby Blue" is up there, too. I considered both but worry (even more!) about my ability to handle their vocals, especially those gorgeous harmonies. If you decide that you prefer "Day", I'd be happy to attempt "No Matter What". Then I could blame the disastrous results on you! I just ordered their "Best Of" CD to begin planning, so just let me know within the next month or so if you change your mind, OK? J.
