Will there be a Comp CD 2009 effort?

I think an effort should be made.

What do you think?

what does that involve, do you mean we each submit a track of our own or are you talking about an album full of dogpiles?

if it's tracks of our own, do they need to be commonly themed? (because i don't write anything similar to any of the stuff i've heard from anyone here so far)

Clive,

What we did a couple of times before: someone volunteers for "project leader". Every contributor sends the project leader a home recorded song (original or cover) and a little bit of information on it. The project leader puts them together as an album. No need for a common theme.

It sounds simple but it's an awful lot of work, not to mention the money: burning the discs, printing labels, printing booklets, the jewel cases and not to mention postage.

60's Guy was a project leader twice, I did it one time.

What I did was burning 3 audio disc per unit, label them, and I included a DVD with the 2004 meeting video, also labeled. I made a +/- 35 page booklet. I put it all in a DVD box (labeled) and sent them to everyone. All labels were in full color. A lot of time and money was involved. So, think twice before you volunteer.

Some people had the idea of putting all info (songs, artwork) online so everyone could make his own copy. For some reason that does not appeal to me. That way, it doesn't feel like the "original comp cd production".

The project leader could always decide to make a simpler production, or to put all the stuff online - in the end the project leader is in charge.

I could provide the web space to put a comp CD online.

If everyone submitted their files online to Robbie, he could make them available to everyone. Then you can download them to your computer and burn your own choices to a cd or cds. If there's room, we could submit a bio etc and have it available as well. That would save the cost of someone expensing a big production and shipping.

Count me in, too, although March 31, 2012 might be tight. Would April 1 be better?

just for whatever it's worth, it's about 800 US dollars to have 300 professionaly printed jackets and CDs. A smaller run will cost you $1000000.00. But if we want 1000 it's only $200 dollars more :) However it goes, I'm in. And donations to the honcho are definately in order!

Yep. 30%, per wing. :)

Maybe this is something for kunaki, $1,75 per CD.

edit: shipping included it's about $3,- per unit to the Netherlands.

Yeah...dunno what happened there!

MSG should have to pay for it all. He's retired and on a fixed income. We should break it.

I'm not the boss. I was throwing it out there to see if anyone else besides myself has interest in participating in another Comp CD and if anyone else has interest in organizing it. It's a lot of work as you know, Robbie, but it's fun and a great learning experience.
