well there is none sexier than a Les Paul for sure. I was and still am an LP guy but much like my appreciation of the many varieties of women, my tastes in guitars has expanded also. =P~

I spent my early years playing a 10 pound Les Paul. Anything lighter still feels like a toy to me.

I hear you about that volume knob on the strat, Bob. When I rewired my strat I pulled that danged volume knob out altogether.

Oy, hearin' ya on those weighty LP's. I went out and got me a faded LP Special last year. It weighs in at about 4 lbs., practically nothing.

Arn't all the new Les Paul coming with hollow out cavitys to save weight nowdays ? That's kinda what I was told by the BC guitar sellers. To hear them tell , only the Epi LPs are full weighted solid like the older Pauls.

The SG is one that is not part of my arsenal (yet). They sure are pretty enough. The top-heavy bit always kinda messed with me though.

Hollowing out an LP seems to be defeating the purpose doesn't it?

I still bring out the LP for recording but I can't see myself standing with it for 3 hours anymore. Oh hell, I can't see myself standing for 3 hours anywhere anymore. 8)

Played an SG for many years---college bands etc... Bought it used(my first electric)...sadly, the previous owner had modified some things and it was pretty beat up, but I didn't know any better as an 18 year old...what a workhorse though... The thing I liked about them was the thin 60's tapered necks...not the one that mc likes...unfortunately, with thin necks come cracked necks...still the easiest guitar I've ever played....now its just my Tele and Ibanez hollow body...Anyone played the 400 series of Epiphone SG's??? They're going for about $250 in Cali...hmmmmmm....just maybe.

I almost snagged a 400 series three humbucker Epi a while back. Really liked it until my guitar guy pulled me aside and showed me where the headstock had been repaired. An almost invisible repair but damaged none the less. Snapped off right at the headstock joint.

Brian Robertson of Thin Lizzy played a hollowed les paul that Les Paul himself made for his wife. His tone was utterly fantastic and he remains my favourite guitarist. Not perhaps the best ever technically like Via or Satriani, but melody, swagger, cool and all the other things that go to make up the perfect lead guitarist. Most importantly - killer solo's 8)

I was always a Gibson lover, and I've got a nice old '68 ES-355 in the closet that used to be my main ax. But in 2000, I got a '52 RI Telecaster in a trade, and it has kept my Gibby in the closet. Once I started playing it, after setting it up, I liked everything about it. A short list:

Neck radius agrees with my hands
Maple neck easy to see where I'm at on dimly lit stage
Can lay it on its back on a table without having the headstock hit the table
Can stand it on its edge on a table without having it tip over
    Sounds like God
Easy to dial in the sound I want
    Light
    Classic tone

The last item is cool. I read somewhere that more than 50% of all recorded electric guitar was done on a Telecaster. It's tone is just "comfortable" to my ears.

I have a Jap Tele that I absolutely love...couldn't imagine life without it...I saw my first set of boobies because of that guitar...

My main live guitar was always a Les Paul...I have a studio light that absolutely kills...it is hollowed out and I don't think it hurts the sound at all...that guitar has been through the ringer... it looks like an absolute mess...finish worn off becuase of the lack of binding, pin hole burns on it (I won't tell where those came from )...it has had absurd amounts of alcohol poured into every crevice, and probalby has been involved in a few carnal acts of passion...when I pull it out tomorrow it will sound as good as it did 10 years ago...I guess the point of my rambling is tone has a lot more to do with the player's technique and experience than anyone ever wants to admit...especially guys who want to sell you a $3000 dollar guitar...

just my $.02

Is it just my band, or is anyone else seeing more tits than ever? Lately, almost every time we play, and we're a bunch of uglies, mind you, we get flashed. Not that I'm complaining, or anything like that. :D :D
