A few clues point to the Telecaster as being a sound investment for being the proper guitar to cover my taste of making my own music.
I don't know much about them but I'm guessing they can do rock and anything funky, mellow or twangy.
Does anyone have anything on Telecasters and their applications with them for music recording?

There are probably more #1 hits with Telecasters on them than any other guitar. Everyone should have one in their collection.

I got me an '82 American made...as Bob sez, everyone needs one in their quiver...Make you play more than one...they have different neck profiles depending upon the year made or the reissue...I think the '52 reissue is more like a Strat....mine's a bit thicker...

Got 2 of 'em. Love them both. Something about that string through design that makes them truly great.

I have an older Japanese one and a newer American one. From everything I hear, the Standard Series (Mexican) are damn near good as the U.S. models. For $400 new off the shelf this is close to no-brainer territory. Get thee to a Banjo Center and try some out.

From what I understand from the Fender gurus. Both the US and Mex. necks are machined in California. The finishing and the MZxxxxx serial numbering are done in Mexico on the standard necks. Personally I like the finish on a Japan neck the best. Deep finish , silky smooth. the Mexican neck has a thin finish with the American standard being somewhat in the middle. I also like the smaller 6-1/2" neck radius over the more modern 9 to 11 inches. When I was Tele shopping I perfered the Mex. over the Am.St. Yeah maybe they wen't stamped Made in USA but they were setup and intonated as good or better than any US ones I played. I really couldn't see the price differance.

I just got pissed off at Fender and built my own for twice the money I coulda had an American one for.

Guess I showed them.

always wondered about guitars with maple fretboards.
hadn't been playing much for awhile.
saw a mexican tele with a maple fretboard for sale (dude's got all his worldly possessions for sale on his front lawn...he's moving to florida).
I bought the tele. I played it alot for a couple months. great feel. great neck. sounds good.

next, I bought the aw1600. have since gone completely acoustic. I play a takamine an10. and sing and blah blah blah.......will certainly play the tele again.......its great.......its a babe........

i prefer the maple fretboards, myself. i like the rosewood too and i know its supposed to be warmer sounding but something about a deeply glossed maple neck. so smooth. and chunky..in a bright way i guess.
i even like the maple boards without much finish at all. thats always an interesting tone. although, i fail to remember to perfect combination; that is; a dry maple board with a guitar that stayed in tune.. heavy machine and woodsy tops..im a sustain junkie, who isnt?

i want to go on vacation for two weeks to strictly test out all guitars and note the characteristics. aloha

its interesting to compare the blondes with the brunettes in this. maybe not too closely in relation to their human counterparts but more as light and dark. for example, every les paul or sg i play has the shading in it, a rounded almost recessed sound that can be tweeked for maximum brightness if need be. im still not sure if i can actually even really tell a real differnce between blondes and brunettes or if its just my visual mind playing a trick on me.

unless its about thicker sized brunies or blondes than thats totally different
if the chick has a bigger cup size and, i mean if a guitar has a fatter neck, more dense woods, etc..

sorry
but they are like women in someways
i suppose smashing the guitar would be a derogatory way
although u can kind of either love/hate the who, hendrix, sean connery

yogurt;"ahh what a world, what a world.."

I've read studies where the conclusion was that the difference between the maple and rosewood fretboards is mostly in the player's head. For some reason I prefer my Fenders to be blondes.

It's one guitar I have never bought - it's *so* ugly that I just can't :?

Sorry Bob. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I've always beheld a rather goofy looking guitar in the Tele. Probably my loss, as in 30+ years of playing I think I've only picked one up once. Then again, I never plugged into a Marshall until after I turned 40. I guess my near lifelong obsession with playing guitar has not translated into a similar obsession with guitars, amps and the like. Am I not normal?

Well it's definitely a fitting color; cream.

For when you plug it into a 1965 Guild Thunder I and cream your jeans!

Well you can probably do damn near the same things with a Strat that you can with a Tele. I love the Strat body but some of the other ergonomic factors (placement of the volume pot) are just not as comfortable for me.

a tele looks exactly what a guitar should look like.
beautiful.
i can't stand all that poofy stuff and makin 'em look like cars or sum shut.
i have a black squire that i upgraded (all new electronics).
plain black with a lime green pick guard.
beautiful.
i *have* to play it every day.
i just have to touch it - feel it - squeeze it - squeal it - oh yeah.....
if you can only own one guitar it aught to be a tele.

Well, to cut a long story short - it's ugly. A real Spec-Savers number. If you gave a kid a knife, a lump of wood and some electronics and said: "Build me a guitar" I suspect the Telecaster would likely be the outcome. The bridge and controls look like they were stuck on to make a working prototype and left that way. Like an oversight.

I can't deny the guitars popularity or it's tonal quality, but it's looks? [-X

On the contrary, if you can only avoid one guitar it aught to be a tele. :P
