One of the things that I miss about the AW16 was the ability to change between monitoring pre-fader/post-fader in order order to make sure that you have good levels set. Most of the other units involve guess work.

Here is a video that I did showing how painful it is to set good levels on the R24.

I always wanted to do a video series like this on the 16G, but never got around to it... I made a few mistakes along the way, but I think it's decent.

I plan on doing a full series to answer studio related questions. Let me know what you think.

Nice video lesson. While it explains the pre and post input levels, it shows me how difficult of a unit it is when I compare it to what I currently know: The Yamaha AW series recorders. Was also wondering if you can utilize the screen for any visual of the recording levels or are you limited to the peaks above each fader.

Thanks for sharing.

No levels are displayed on the screen. The screen only has the time, tempo, markers info, etc.

I just read that for setting recording levels on the zoom you need to use the peak indicators. the idea is to play the loudest part of the session on your instrument into the input and set the input level so that the peak level only flashes briefly. It is a peak indicator and not a clipping indicator. That should help ...

Sounds like it operates like a lot of live mixing consoles in that regard, Dirk.

We're all doing pretty well, thanks...with the exception of this ongoing sciatic nerve issue I've been trying to resolve. Hopefully tomorrow night's MRI will yield some answers. :)

How about yourself?

I'm quite ok and so is the direct familly. Parents not doing so well but that has been so for the last 40 years i'm affraid. Stepdad now has a build in defibrilator which, other than keep his ticker going, should also help to calm his anxiaties. I wish i could say the two can look forward to an easier period but they have been on each others nerves for as long as they have been together with the exception of the first months. They could enjoy their pension if only the could look at what they have and forget about all the things they are missing. They never learned to see things in perspective and they never will.

Sorry, i started ranting here ...

No problem, Dirk. It sounds like a sad situation that you are managing to keep in perspective.

Yep, happiness comes from appreciating what you have, not longing for what you don't have.

I think this is the first thread ever that went off-topic to a topic other than cheese. :D

Oh guys and once and for all... don't you notice anything?

No red wax! Not a single flake.

Everything in red wax is rejected for the Dutch market. It's put in red wax to be able to survive the extra time span for export.

Robbie tells the truth. I never told him this, but...

...while Robbie was busy chatting up the young lad who was waiting on him and preparing our order, I snuck in the back room where I saw...a giant palette of cheese wheels with a large, hand-written sign taped to them. Right next to it, a young man was taking them one by one and dipping them into a vat of hot, red wax.

Needless to say, I was stunned. However, I did manage to jot down what that hand-writted sign said in the little notebook I carried to document my adventures, although I didn't understand it. I meant to ask Robbie later what it said, but we got distracted going out to dinner, making a little music, sampling the cheese, and talking into the wee hours. Interesting sidenote: it was in those wee hours that we heard the news of Neil Armstrong's passing.

Anyway, I had forgotten about my little note until I returned home a few days later with my family and we were unpacking. Coming across my little notebook, I wondered what that Dutch sign said, so I got online and found a reputable translator web site, which promptly told me the sign said...

..."Rejected. Send this crap to America!"

Needless to say, I will doubt him no more on this topic. :D
