I bought my '82 American Fender Stratocaster in 1982 so I guess I've had it 28 years.

I'm still depressed over selling my '68 Gibson ES-335, my Fender Bassman head and an original Army Box Green Echoplex.

Maybe the family will surprise me with a Gibson Les Paul for my 50th birthday in July. A sunburst or gold top standard would be nice. Never owned a Gibson Les Paul. Been a mostly a Fender Strat player.

I bought a '74 or '75 Les Paul Deluxe in 1977 or so. I sold it to my brother, who still has it. Does that count? Talk about a guitar that's been through WWIII and back, and shows every scar.

I still have my very first guitar, a Harmony Stella acoustic guitar that I received on my 11th birthday in 1966.

I had not seen that video before. Now i've already played with Andreas and his friends. But where's Rob ?

My Fender Precision bass was bought new in 1978 for £340 if I remember correctly. 33 years later it is still my No1 bass which I play it at every gig. Just fitted a new set of Elixer strings and it sounds and feels even better. My other basses don't come close to my old P. That includes my MM Stingray, Ken Smith 5 string and Goodfellow Player basses.(my backups)

Fender forever for me!

My first electric guitar, a Electra Invicta bought in 1981. It sits in a case in much need of repair. Body, hardware, & guts! It's 30 yrs old.

Should look like this one, but doesn't right now.

I've got an old Hofner President Thin guitar. It dates from around 1963 but I got it in around 1973. I used to live near Windsor and there was an old junk shop in the town where a friend of mine saw the guitar and paid a princely £20 for it. Apparently, the soldiers would bring these Hofners back from Germany (in the wake of the Beatles Hamburg connection I guess). Somebody had drilled three neat holes in it for some electronics, thus compromising its resale value considerably.

I bought the guitar from him for £25 and he has been asking for it back ever since. He says that he was drunk when he sold it to me, so I have had to promise it to him in my will. (I'm thinking of adding a condition to the will, that at my funeral he has to sing a song using the guitar but I haven't yet decided which one.)

I think the last time I used it was in about the mid-nineties for some recording but since I've bought other guitars I never use the Hofner. They were glued together using a very weak vegetable glue and the necks had a tendency to break off from the body. There's also a small plastic tube stuck inside which is a battery compartment for a pre-amp of some sort. Unfortunately, the kind of batteries that fit have long since gone out of production.

I also have an old preacher's harmonium which I bought from a shop in Bournemouth where I was living at the time. I once harboured plans to record some music for harmonium and fretless bass but fortunately it never happened! Now it just sits in the corner under a pile of magazines and paper.

I still have the baritone ukelele that I learn upon. It was my dad's and he sang us songs using chord progressions I wish i knew now, but alas dad is not around to show me the intricacies. But he did teach me the basics, for which I am grateful

I also own a classical guitar I bought at a reputable music house in mexico city when I was 14. The brand is La Valencia. It is a sweet sounding instrument, which I would not trade for anything. Don't play it often, but it is mine for keeps.

Some interesting stories here guys.
My first 2 guitars (electric) are long gone.
The oldest I have was my sisters Dana 3/4 scale acoustic. Inside the sound hole there is no label; just an ink stamp that says "JAPAN".
Aquired in 1972. 37 years old. So warped it is unplayable except as a lap slide. Then it sounds sweet, and it performs admirably on 37 year old strings.

Second oldest is Yamaha FG331. Solid spruce top. Solid mahogany back and sides. Small body. It plays so great and people always comment on how good it sounds. This one goes to campfires and house parties. It's got some dings and the top is wearing down near the bridge a la Willie Nelson. There is also a 1/4" hole in the front lower bout from the corner of a picnic table. It's the only acoustic I ever bought new. Frankly it's the only one I ever owned save my sisters Dana.
Bought new after a one month rental from Long & McQuade in Toronto circa 1983. 28 years.

Now I wonder if that old kiddy zylophone (between 1959-1962) is still in my parents basement.

I have a 1971 Les Paul Custom (black beauty/"fretless wonder") That I bought new when I got my first real job. It was re-fretted right away. As a kid I didn't realize that the"fretless wonder" was not set up for rock and roll. Also, couldn't afford the Gibson case at the time.

Went through two cheaper cases over the years, until my dear wife bought me a real Gibson case. This guitar has seen lots of road miles all over western Canada, and oddly enough seems to have gotten heavier over the years! Now it lives in it's luxourious Gibson case and I (mostly) play a nice (light) American standard Strat (a 2012 model)

Not an instrument but I am still using the same guitar strap on my strat that I got on my very first guitar on my 14th birthday. that`s 40 years ago, it`s a black leather one with the Gibson logo on it, was`nt a Gibson guitar though but an Angelica Deluxe.
