We got a letter from the Internet Access service that they were going to upgrade the download and upload speed. I didn't expect too much from it, but it's actually 5 times faster than it used to be. Thanks KPN! Good job!

More time for cheese?

Less time for cheese because waiting for uploads/downloads to finish used to be cheese time?

Impressive upgrade, but what are the practical implications. :)

Have you tried uploading a Robbie piano session test in the exchange section? :) Or are we just talking about the boss's home internet access?

Cheese,

bok

edit: decided to start signing off with "cheese" instead of "cheers" in honor of your service to the forum, boss!

The practical implications: I download a lot. Sometimes complete directory structures because it's way easier to search. It's not really that important but it's a lot more comfortable.

Cheese-wise: I've been analysing using the following linear equasion system:

C + A = C - B
A + B = 0

Where C is the number of cheese opportunities per day, the A is the upload/download speed and the B is the time every upload takes.

Solution:

C + A = C - B
A = -B

C + A = C - B
-A = B

C + A = C - (-A)

C = C.

So, for every download speed, cheese is the answer.

But as you have said -- all cheeses are not created equal. Especially when it comes to cheddar.

And at what point is the variable, "wax color", taken into consideration?

Well Roberto, you got me to thinking what my speed is these days. Comcast says they're the fastest, so I checked. Lo and behold!

Wow Ron, that IS fast. I don't think my puter would be able to keep up with that kind of speed.

Before the upgrade, it was 10 mbps down (1 MB per second) and 1 mbps up (100 kB per second). You'll probably understand why this upgrade is so welcome. Besides, it was a topic suitable for drivel. :)

I left that out, Byron. I'd like to say that wax rules out the possibility of cheese, but in fact it would make the model way too complex for me.

My scientific approach is: determine what you want to see. And then, investigate, research, analyse and compute until you see the desired result. And my desire was to see cheese. Long live science!

That was my desktop which is direct into the wall. The wifi isn't near the speed.

I'm truly impressed! That kind of speed is (until now) impossible here.

It's about time we'll get door-to-door glass fiber connection.

In a few years, the bandwidth we need for watching tv in 4K, 8K and/or 3D requires around 40 mbps. For most dutch households, that is out of reach. And to think that, when I was a student, many many years ago, I used to work together with other students by logging into bulletin board servers, enabling us to share 10kB or 20kB files at a transfer rate of 300 bits per second. 10 minutes of waiting for a download or upload was faster than having to bicycle over there. And more comfortable. Your connection is now half a million times faster, Ron.

I think this is no prank, but I've been cheated before... :lol:

And there's another way to fake it, I can login to our school's network and start a terminal session with a workstation that is actually in the school. I have the screen and the keyboard. Those networks are waaay faster than our home networks.

To me, it is. Just 6 months ago it would have said 10 Mbit/s download and 1 Mbit/s upload. As you know I do a lot of uploading, installing software on servers etc. This upgrade is more than welcome.

Through wifi, that's very good. I installed an app on my phone and it gets to about half that.

Besides, I'm drunk. There was no cheese in the house so I was looking for a worthy alternative. Didn't find it. But I did find beer. With the help of my neighbour. Yes! :)
