I've owned my G for what?.....ten years now? And at the most I had experienced only a couple of those infamous spontaneous reboots that people posted about now and then.

All of a sudden tonight...........in the middle of recording a bass track and pressing a few buttons to stop/rewind....... a spontaneous reboot.

Yeah, well, whatever, start over, move on.

Two more attempts at recording a bass track and two more spontaneous reboots led me to finally remember that spontaneous reboots are not just another urban myth.

I remembered that.......

The G does has a mind of its own, but unfortunately it can't respond to commands as quickly as we can punch its buttons giving it commands to respond to. That was something I had discovered a long time ago about the G and I probablly should have mentioned it then.

It's not a bug perse.......it's a user thing. Slow down and give the machine time to think.

Good point Randy. I'd like to add that a corrup file system can also contribute to spontaneous reboots. In that case, export all tracks to wav, delete the song, create a new song, import the wavs.

What Robbie said. Wav export/new song/import will certainly help. And don't forget to optimize frequently.

Thanks for listening. I listened to the clip when I got to the office this morning and all I could think was.....it sounded much better last night when I was consuming a 6 pack. I heard things this morning that I need to change/work on, but then again.....I was listening to it at the office with $5 headphones.

It's a work in progress for sure.

I wouldn't get too hung up about imperfections at this point. The track I listened to sounded ok as bed tracks. Many items that seem to stick out at certain points in the listening cycle cease causing such feelings, and as the mix grows some issues disappear (or get treated) and new issues arise. the six pack thing I understand, but don't be too hard on yourself for digging it "too much" last night >>> you were locked on. The truth will emerge with subsequent listens .. good, bad or ugly!!

off the top of my head, three things that could cause a machine to force a restart - a bad sector on your HD, a full HD, and too much load caused by data streams at a higher rate than the machine can handle.

i've never had a bad reboot since 2002 and have often used all 16 tracks at once* so i imagine the third case would only occur on a 'G if the HD was horribly fragmented and the heads wasted too much time trying to locate the next HD sector

me, i'd be backing up my stuff to CDs and running an HD check. i hope your sectors are all ok.

*but i do try to keep my workflow as efficient as possible for the 'G itself - i avoid segmented tracks by always 'flattening' them and then optimising, so that each track ultimately consists of one single piece from start to end - it's less load on the machine
