Hi, all! Here's a bug I've experienced. Please let me know if you have the same problem.

If you go to TRACK-VIEW, you would have an option of clicking on WAVE button to see the waveforms of the sounds you've recorded. Click on it.

Let's say I've recorded a single piano sound on one track, and that piano sound starts at 00:01.500 and ends at 00:01.750. The waveform I would see (after clicking on WAVE) would therefore begin at 00:01.500 and end at 00:01.750, so far so good.

But when I adjust the tracks by either inserting space (via EDIT-INSERT) before the sound, or by deleting space before the sound (via EDIT-DELETE), the bug occurs.

What happens is that G indeed correctly adjusts the sound. For example, if I use DELETE, and then delete space between 00:01.100 and 00:01.200, then the sound I've recorded between 00:01.500 and 00:01.750 would move forward by 00:00.100 and would now sound between 00:01.400 and 00:01.650.

HOWEVER, the Waveform DOES NOT MOVE. It still remains between 00:01.500 and 00:01.750, and is therefore incorrect. It does not move when I adjust the space on the track, and it becomes out of sync with the sound it represents.

The problem is not a big one, as I simply write down by how much I adjusted sounds, so I know their exact position on the track, but a bug nevertheless

Thank you for your attention :)

I guess there's a simple solution for your Problem  .

The Delete function deletes any sound recorded from time A to time B by inserting silence (so to say) of the same length of time.

To really cut something down, eg. You've recorded vocals, starting at 01:200 and you'd like them to start at 00:000: Use the Erase function found within the "Edit"-menu as well.^

"Delete" acts like a rubber or eraser and will insert silence between points A and B, while "Erase" is like a scissor that will really cut out the part between A and B, and then glues the wav back together.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, MicEater, but you got it backwards. DELETE actually cuts the space, while ERASE creates silence but doesn't cut anything.

And it doesn't explain why the Waveform is out of sync with the sound.

Could you please try what I've described in my first post yourself, and see if you have the same problem?

huh  ? I could've sworn that it was this way around.

I'll try it out once I get some studio-time again.

Sorry for creating further confusion instead of helping.

Erase inserts silence . Delete moves the track forward.
The line in wave display is the actual point where the recorder is and is adjusted by jogging the time shown above the wave display , a mark .or the record in/out time. I really don't see any bugs rhere. I use it almost every day.

That is a bit strange. The wave view should adjust accordingly, one would think. Have you tried to exit the wave view after your edit and go back in?

Or do a save and then go back.

Yeah, I've done all of the above. I checked it just now (after saving and all that). On the piano track, the waveforms sort of correspond to the actual sound, but now they look out of whack - some actual peaks don't look like peaks on the waveform, while some waveform peaks are not the actual sound peaks, but rather valleys.

And the vocals track is just like I described in the original post. There's a sound when there is nothing on the Wave display. And also there's something on the wave display when there's no sound

Very strange, probably a bug in my particular G

What do you have the playback window set at ? I think it goes from about 200ms to about 3 mins or so. also the AMP parameter has a lot to do with how the waveform apears. For example ,if you select say 1 second in of time. The display shows 1/2 second before the area of the line and 1/2 second after the line. when you "listen" it plays the full 1 sec. of the clip displayed. Ditto for the other times selected.

Just a tip......sometimes I will select say 10 seconds and listen. Now that I have my bearings on the waveforms. I will "zoom" in with time , keeping in mind the appearance of the waveform I observed before. Then I can get very precise in the 200ms range if I need to.

Although the manual doesn't mention it , the beat counter in the far upper right corner is also connected. One can curser over to the time area and jog in a precise on beat , up beat or whatever to set an edit marker. (yes you can set a mark from the wave screen) while you watch the beat counter.

Oh yeah , also make sure the wave you are looking at in the same channel you want to edit. I have a time or two adjusted everything looking for a wave that was on a blank channel or even worse the wrong one. When in doubt , use the listen function.

Does that help any?

Sky, thank you for your input. I've played with the Wave button for a while, and use the LISTEN button quite extensively, so no, it's not that. The problem of a Waveform being present but no sound recorded is easily confirmed when I press on LISTEN and hear nothing. Or when I do hear something, but there's no Waveform displayed, or the sound starts before it reaches the start of the Waveform (I'm looking at the vertical line running from left to right, after pressing on the LISTEN button)

Bad, Yamaha, bad! :)
