I started using Sonar Producer several years ago and have for the most part had a good experience since I finally have figured out how to use it's many bells and whistles and strings and drums and guitars and brass and everything else. I chose Sonar Producer because I had a lot of previous experience with Cakewalk. I wish I had time to learn all of the fine points, tricks and secrets of Sonar Producer but that will be in another life time. It wasn't very easy for me as a newbie to ramp up on all of the features without an experienced tutor to fast track me on more of the good stuff built in to this software.

Version 8 of Sonar Producer that I bought comes with 14 soft synths that I use for my many musical experiments. Each of the soft synths has many unique controls to enable tweaks to their hundreds - maybe thousands of instrument sound samples. It was designed for the professional and has vast capabilities way beyond what I use or have time to learn. But if you are serious about recording or producing music as a professional I highly recommend it.

I don't use any of Sonar Producer's many recording features. My main focus was just to use it as a tool to convert General MIDI tracks to something that doesn't sound like GM. That has worked out pretty well. My experiments begin with a Java program I wrote to serve as an aid to musical composition. I feed this program script files and it generates up to 9 tracks of MIDI including melody, counter melody, bass, 2 pad tracks and 2 drum tracks. I import these into Sonar Producer and insert soft synths to convert each of the GM tracks to something that sounds entirely different and hopefully a lot better. It has been a lot of fun for me since by nature I'm an experimenter.

I have to give MRSKYGOD (Geno) a lot of credit for his inspiration and advice. He was a good man who helped a lot of people on this forum. His music lives on on SoundClick.

That was a fun project. I've never tried to get in to programs like Sonar, although I can certainly tell with some practice some great things can occur.

Sounds good and like you had a blast, nice job.
Never used Sonar just Studio One and Pro Tools, but judging by the sounds your working your way through it well.

Sonar is my go to DAW software... The soft synths are pretty cool, as is the arpeggiator... I was going to upgrade to Sonar x1 or 2 or 3, but I've decided to stick with S8 as it suits my needs...Like most the software options out there, it has way to many features for me to tackle, but it's basic recording flow etc. works for me... Also have a free version of Studio One that I keep telling myself I will attempt to learn, just never seem to have the time...
