Could anyone who is running Windows 7 32 bit and is comfortable with regedit, please have a look in your registry and see if you have the following key?

HK-LOCAL_MACHINE_COMPONENTS.

This is part of an ongoing software instal saga.

Thanks

Thanks, it's not there on mine. From perusing the Windows forums, I am not the only one with this problem. No one seems to know how it happens or how to fix it except a full re-install. As I have a relatively new and sparsely loaded PC, I was going to dip my toe in the water with PC editing/mastering and midi sequencing.

I had bought a Protools MP/Fastrack interface package which could not be installed because of this (and other strange windows problems, notably with Visual C) so I bit the bullet and bought a dedicated MAC and a firewire ext HDD. What a rolls royce compared to my PC. Everything works first time with a minimum of fuss - very streamlined machine. I am up and running and now dabbling, and am mighty impressed so far.
