Hi all!

My AW16G has been fine for about five years, but I've recently been encountering disc-writing problems.

When I try to back-up my songs, I get a "System Error" message. Oddly, none of my CDs would work except certain Memorex ones - of which I only had four left. Once they were all used up, I went out and bought identical ones, and now these don't work either.

And as of today, I can no longer burn the songs to disc either. No matter what the brand, and whether I try to do it disc at a time or song at a time (I'm not sure of the difference), I a "CD write error" message. I did once also get an "ATAPI error" message too.

Any ideas what this might be? Do you think it could be the disc drive itself, or some kind of software fault?

many thanks!

Adam

Hi Adam,

does not sound like the CDRs are the reason of the writing errors.
Do you use your 16G in a smokers enviroment?
Maybe there is some dust on the lens?

First thing I would do is trying to clean the lens of the CD-drive very carefully.
Other ideas may follow.

Good luck
Andreas

Make sure the hard drive is not too full . The op.sys. needs enough room on the HD to write a mirror file on to burn a CD .

If it's too full ........no workie .

Welcome to the little corner of the net we call home.

Try the advice written above. If that does not help, remove the CD unit, clean the contacts and re-install.

I hope you get it working again.

one thing you can try is optimizing as many songs as possible and maybe delete some stuff you don't need. I hope you made backups of what's important. If you don't really need the tracks still on the machine you could format the HD.
