Hey Guys. I'm wondering if it is possible to remove taps and ticks from audio without destroyin the recording. Some guy was enthousiastically tapping along with our latest concert close to the mic. Unfortunately his rhythmic feeling is not very good. It's a bit disturbing in otherwise great recordings. ANy ideas ?

Hi Dirk, yes it can be done if you put the wav file into a program like the one I use Presonus Studio One, I believe there is still a watered down free version, or indeed any similar program would be capable of doing the same thing.
Insert the wav file, insert the eq that comes with it, sweep across the eq spectrum from the lowest frequency to the highest with approximately 10db to 15db boost, and you will hear (and see) the noise stick out like a sore thumb, zoom in on it to narrow down the offending frequency and reduce it to -10db or whatever level you can no longer hear it.
Of course if it was just the odd clap or stamp hear and there it would`nt be so much of a problem, but by what your saying it sounds like it`s all the way through so it will take a lot longer, but yes it can be done.
Good luck.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

T.

If the unwanted foot tapping is db-wise noticeably softer than the rest of the wanted sounds, you might experiment with a gate to eliminate most or all of it.

I agree with both options posted above... Izotope has fantastic audio restoration software, but its expensive--- but, they do offer a 10 or 15 day demo, so you could try it out and fix the problems without actually purchasing... Specifically, use the de-noiser or de-clicker...

Create an account, and then download the demo...

Good luck!
