Can anyone tell me if there is any way that I can link my AW 16G to my old Studiomaster Trilogy 206 desk so that I can mix down using the Trilogy. I just prefer the flexibility and I happy using it. I guess the issue is getting all the different channels out of the 16G. Thank you in advance for any responses.

I can't think of any way to do this unless you have four or fewer tracks - then you could send one each to the main outs L/R and the two aux outputs.

Is the optical out not capable of sending more channels out ?

Optical out is just a copy of ST out.
So, together with D/A converter (something like old DAT recorder) optical out can be configured for 2 channel out. But this still won't give more than 4 separate channel outs altogether (what JM mentioned).
