the beer and bait and wurlie shop
sat down in the next county
we'd fly down gravel roads in trucks
to harvest of it's bounty

24 cold for five slim green
we'd snag us three or four
at any time of day or night
they never closed that door

the shop had funky instruments
a toilet seat guitar
but something else soon caught my eye
something way back far

the dust had settled deep and brown
on keys once white and pearly
i scraped it off and underneath
i found two vintage wurlies

i named my price, i did that twice
we tossed them in the truck
when sharon helped us clean them up
i couldnt believe my luck

now i'm no tech on vintage kit
not even just a hacker
but when we fired those wurlies up
geno christened me - "tinewhacker"

that handle stuck the whole week long
through smokes and tokes and beers
and when i left the ranch for home
i had two souvenirs

i play them almost every day
they always make me smile
remembering the music
and the glistening bottle pile

the friendship and the laughter
the good times and the fun
sitting on the porch enjoying
the setting texas sun

it all comes back with every note
the memories without end
of special places, special times
and a very special friend

i'll be whackin' tines well into this night
for you
geno

Hope to make it to some ...stock event > somewhere > somehow > someday. This lyric evokes strong images.

I'm starting to get a pretty good picture what texasstock was all about. It must have been amazing. Too bad i live on the other side of the globe. I'd pay you a visit. Who knows, maybe one day...

Thanks for sharing that.

I remember it too, just like it was yesterday. Man, I wanted to be there so bad. Thanks for sharing that, Eugene. Simply perfect. 8)

Strange,

I received a new post notification to this thread and although all the post dates are listed as 2010 I don't recall reading Eugene's incredible prose before. Not sure if I just missed it originally or why I received the new post notice, perhaps a spam and/or "bot post" that was cleared out already.

Regardless Eugene a belated salute for your artistic expression. You captured so much of the event in your post and I feel so blessed to have been able to have been there. I'll never forget that time and the experience. I wish we had captured our Ricky Recordo tearing through "Momma told me not to come" playing the Whurlie and belting out the vocal.

Another toast to our departed host Geno who made it possible, his wife Sharon and to 61 another dear friend gone much too soon.

Maybe a spammer's post, which was removed. Happens a lot.

That was what I pretty much assumed....still I must have completely forgot or overlooked Eugene's excellent post. Sleep disorders can really screw up your mental function... I can't tell you how much I miss my brain.

I can hardly imagine what that would be like but it sounds like hell. I hope there will be a remedy someday soon.

Thanks Robbie. It sure seems like hell on a frustration/loss of function level most days but I suppose at least it's not a physically painful disorder.
