One of my AW16G's got knocked during a recent house move and the EQ knob is damaged (I have a pic but don't see anyway to attached it). It won't "click" anymore when pressed down but, if you get it at the right angle, it is still just about usable but frustratingly so.

Can someone tell me if these knobs simply lift off so that I can make sure the EQ functions are still working by using one of the other knobs.

I do use the EQ function quite a lot even though I have an outboard EQ box.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to read this. Is the button tilted or pushed in the housing? I would certainly think the nobs can be removed. Perhaps someone will come along with more info.

The knob is not pushed into the housing. The black part which has a couple of "prongs" that snap into place is damaged - one of the "prongs" is snapped off. Without seeing an undamaged one I can't tell for sure how it is supposed to look. Still a bit wary about easing another one off !

Is it not possible to attach photos ?

Yes it is possible. You'll need to find a photo site that lets you post pictures for free. I use photobucket. Upload the picture there. Then right click your photo and click: copy image location. Then when replying to this thread, click the image button above. It will look like this: [img][img] Then right click in between the brackets like this: [img]http://forum.dijonstock.com/styles/subsilver2/imageset/site_logo_dijon_org.gif[img] (I removed a slash so this would show).

The end result should look like this:

I'll try to describe it better.

The EQ knob is grey with a green top. The button sits on a black plastic mount (similar to a guitar volume knob). The plastic mount then sits inside the body of the G and controls the various functions (in this case, EQ). The plastic mount has 2 side prongs and a shorter middle one. The side prongs have a lip at the end. It is one of the side prongs that has snapped off.

I'm sure all the black plastic mounts for all of the knobs are the same design (DYN, EFF1, EFF2 and PAN) so if I could get one off I could test to make sure all is well. Then I just need to fins another knob assembly - easier said than done, of course.

Hope all that makes sense. Can't think of a better word than prong.

Please don't go pulling your own AW16G apart. This is only for those among us who have actually seen the workings etc...

I guess it would be one hell of a long shot but I could try Yamaha for a replacement.

I have an AW1600, but the knobs are probably the same. Just pull up on the knob and it should slip off the shaft. Press down on the shaft and see if it clicks. If not, the switch probably got damaged in the fall. You would need a new part to fix that.

Good luck,

Thank you Hog Time - that is exactly the problem. It is not the grey knob but the plastic shaft itself that is broken and has come out. There's not enough of it left intact to click. I'm pretty sure the electronics still work but where on earth do I get a replacement part and then, of course, fit it ?

This is really annoying because I recently bought this machine 2nd hand and it was in near perfect condition and had hardly been used. Without the EQ its lost a huge amount of functionality.

Take a small screwdriver and press down on what's left of the shaft. If it clicks, then maybe you could use some Super Glue to glue on a wood or plastic dowel. Just be careful the glue doesn't seep into the rotating part of the device.

Contact Yamaha to see if they still have that replacement part. If they do, you still have the problem of getting it installed. The part is probably soldered onto a circuit board inside the case. Could be a lot of work just to take it apart, especially if it's not the type of thing on your list of talents. :)

Good luck,

Hey Bok, good to hear from you! All's well here. Doing some weekly outdoor jamming with some people in an Arroyo Grande park. Fired up my AW1600 for the first time in a while to record 3 of us here at my place. Had to get the manual out to remember all the keys to press. :)

Now getting my camper ready for summer travel. First stop is Parkfield bluegrass festival on Mother's Day weekend.

Don't post much here anymore, but I do check it everyday.

Hope all is well with you.

Ralph
