Hey everyone, glad to see the site is still active - I miss many of you and think about you all often!
I hope everyone is still well, and see a few familiar names still on the page...

So, after 14 years of heavy use, my original AW-16G is having issues with the CD burner.
I am currently recording demos for my new project, and purchased a new another AW-16G and need to
transfer a song from one "G" to the other "G". I bought the proper optical cable, but can't figure thjis one out!!

Anyone able to assist?

Yo Bud! Good to see ya around. I'm not sure about the optical cable route. That may be something Byron can answer. My first thought would be to swap burners.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Ron, but I am not quite sure on this one. I will look it up. I think that the optical out can be assigned and then cascaded to another machine. And even by that method you would move tracks one or two at a time, in real time and then not have your settings, via scenes.

I have never restored a project to a G, but i do have a couple of backups from very early G- rental days. Those projects took a couple of discs each.

You could get all the tracks as wavs, using 2816 format, but again no scenes.

Swapping out the burner sounds like a good option if the problem is the hardware. There are some instructions on this site if you search for them.

I'd at least back up important projects to CD and I'd probably want a 2816 version too, before i opened up the machine. As a non computer geek I'd be afraid of compromising my data somehow. Static charge, stupid mistakes etc. You may have more confidence or know someone who has it to proceed. It seems simple enough What could go wrong ....!?

Backing up to CD would be good, if the CD burner worked...
That is why I bought a second "G"...I only need to save one song in this fashion, all other songs were saved as soon as completed.
I will swap out burner on old "G" after I solve this crisis!! Going into the studio soon, and I need to finish this demo!!

If you swap out the burners now, then you can do the 2816 backups to cd and install them on the other unit once you swap it back. Lot's of work, but worth it.

Hi Bud, great to see you again!

I'm not sure at all, but I suspect the optical connection is not the way to go as I've come to understand the only thing it does is connect main buses. If possible at all, each track would have to be separately transferred by putting it to the bus and playing it in real time. I wouldn't know how to wire it internally.

It's amazing what the quality of the G is. Mine will be 14 years old this month and it's still in perfect working condition... even though I haven't always been very careful with it.

Yes -- what Ron said, except back up in AW format too, so you get scenes too. with 2816 wavs you are starting from scratch. Depends on complexity of mix and how much of what you had done is remembered. Once I get tweaking there is no going back or recreating, usually. That is why scenes are so important. On the other hand, starting from scratch sometimes leads to new ideas and a less encumbered mix.

Or you could possibly try swapping the Hard drive, would that not do it?
