Right. Disassembled mine tonight.

Point 1. Its trickier than I thought.
2. There were screws simply never put in during manufacture (I have now put them in and the interface is firmer)
3. Mine shipped with an IBM drive.
4. DONT USE CONTACT CLEANER ON THE SLIDERS!

So... Beside the FYIs, can anyone tell me what to treat my slider tracks with to stop them sticking like sandpaper? It's really that bad.

Sorry to hear you found it tricky. Hope I didn't lead you down the garden path on that.

Do all of you sliders do this? Any idea what caused the problem?

I would suggest you contact Yamaha and see what they charge for the sliders. I was very pleased with their prices and service when I ordered a replacement pot/switch for my G. Once you have a few spares on hand, you might try taking one of the damaged sliders apart and see if you can clean up the slider path.

Maybe the contact cleaner hazed a plastic glide in the slider, or sumpin'.

Nah, you led me nowhere, I would have done it eventually regardless. I am guessing but I think the contact cleaner either thinned or dissolved the 'lubricant' that was there before. It happened to all of them, because well, I sprayed all of them at once. I've used the stuff for years, and its never caused a problem.

I'll live with it for now and see how things go. Maybe I've just created 'mud' in there because there was a lot of dirt and muck in the grooves.

On the up side, I also sorted out my Track function button as well as my Track 15/16 button. They were a pain to keep double pressing. Contact cleaner DOES work on those.

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having with those jammed faders .

Did you try to clean then by using a can of pressurized air? If there's residue in there... you might get lucky and get it out like this.

Hope you'll find a way to make them slide again .

Yeah, I think you may be onto something there, because the grit seems to move as you use the sliders. I'll look out for something like that. Is this can of air the same as the compressed air you buy for Air-Brushing? Thats probably as close as I will get in SA.

As long as it's purely air, that's coming out of those cans... I'd say yeah.

Given that any additional stuff wouldn't eventually mix too well with the airbrush colours... yeah, sounds reasonable.

I know that you can get those cans of air at computer stores... to blow residue out your printer, keyboard etc... so that might be the cheapest and easiest way to go. Apart from that... mail-order might be a possibility too.

I don't know if this is important, but the canned "air" you get at the computer store is actually 1,1,1,2 Tetraflouroethane, the "Ozone Friendly" alternative to the Freon that we used to use so cavalierly for removing dust from films before duplicating or making enlargements. Just be sure to hold the can upright when spraying to avoid discharging the very low-temparature liquid from the can. I'm not sure it would cause damage, but better safe...

Oil of a Sardine the sliders are smooth again. Don't know why, not going to ask questions. It works.
