I changed my G's hard disk for a 80GB (Travelstar) and updated to V1.06 (many thanks to this board !!).
I checked the remaining time and found 20:54 remaining. I restored my songs from my backup CD/RW ( 1.517GB) and found 20:34 remaining.
From a rapid calculation, it seems that the whole 80GB are recognized by the AW. AWesome, aint'it??
Bought a brand new CD writer on flybay for about $40, just in case... as oldies spare parts are becoming rare as time goes by!
Hope that these informations will be of any help out there.
Regards,
Danskman

I think 20:38 minutes is the maximum total recording time for one song. That would make the song about Six GigaByte which is the maximum file size if i remember correctly.

The display will change depending on the number of tracks you arm for recording and will show the remaining time with the selected number of recording tracks.

If you watch the number while arming tracks for record you will see it diminish ...

Congrats on getting the bigger drive working and welcome to the forum!

The time remaining applies only to the current song loaded. As Robbie stated, the maximum song size is 6.4 GB. Until you fill your drive so that there is less than 6.4 GB remaining, this remaining time number will stay the same for a new (no tracks recorded yet) song. Therefore, you won't really know if more than 40 GB is recognized until you have over about 34 GB of data stored (40 - 6.4) and the time number stays the same. Better get to work generating songs to test it.

It's early in the a.m., so I hope my explanation makes sense. :)

Welcome to the forum, Danskman.

Yes indeed you see the result of the song file limit. It's not there on the AW1600. However 6.4 GB is more than enough.

If you want to see if your G really recognizes the bigger disc size, make a 5 GB project and copy it as often as you can. Make sure you have something else on your hands too as the copy process is very time consuming.

THX for the information, yes, I understand that the remaining time is for the current song... I wish Yammy would have given us a mean to know free HD space in a snap, but as usual, some simple basic things are often miles away of R&D engineers
Anyway, let's play and record music with this amazing machine!
Best regards,
