I use a AW16G , and I am forever going over parts , that are either a mistake or just don't sound right, i used too mark and use auto punch, but then i found my old Yamaha on/off pedal and wow.... no more marking.

Press the pedal once and the recorder is in play mode, press again and its in record mode.. so much easier then marking, for the sake of a 15.00 pedal.

Yep, I've used a pedal for punch ins/outs since I got my G. I purchased the pedal at the same time as the G. The pedal also works fine on my AW1600.

I use the pedal from my Yamaha keyboard !!
I think any pedal that is a basic on off switch will work, I maybe wrong but I`m sure it does because my mate built a vocal booth in his studio and used an on off switch from Maplins in there to use for vocal takes.

I use a generic $15 foot pedal i bought some years ago to use as a sustain pedal for a low end yamaha keyboard. Work great for the on/ off function with the AW.

Thanks this is great I never got around to trying the footswitch but it works fine. On my AW1600 it cyles between stop-play-record-play-record which is nice.

I use a foot pedal that came with a bass effects processor. simple on/off. Works great.

The thing I use it most for is holding it in my hand while tracking vocals - don't believe i could do without it.

I need a replacement so I can sell the bass unit tho. looks like the cheapest thing on ebay is either a sustain pedal or a tatoo operators footswitch. Both less than $10 w/ shipping.

Any better suggestions? Thx

I remember way back when I got my AW16G I tried some model footswitch (don't remember what it was) and it didn't work right. I bought a Yamaha one and it fixed the problem.

Not sure 'how' it didn't work but I noticed that the pedal I use triggers when I release the switch. I looked at the recommended Yamaha FC5 pedal and saw that it is a normally closed switch which opens when pressed. Opposite from typical normally open / held closed foot pedals.

Either work. For most folks stomping on a foot switch they won't see the difference - it was only when I used mine handheld that I noticed. BTW handholding(is that a word ) the remote while tracking vocals is really handy

FWIW tho, I just found new FC5's on ebay for 13.99 shipping included. music123.com has them on sale (4/9/11)

I firured if I ever sold the aw1600 a matching yamaha pedal might look better than THIS I reckon.

With the Yamaha footswitch that came with my keyboard, when it is unplugged and I then switch the keyboard on, then plug the pedal in, the keyboard is in the opposite state than when I leave the pedal plugged in when switching on the keyboard!!
So when the pedal is unplugged then switch on the keyboard then plug the pedal in I have to press the pedal to sustain the keys, but when the keyboard is switched on with the pedal already plugged in I have to release it to sustain the keys.
So I wonder if this was the problem with Ralph`s pedal?
Would be interesting to know if this does have the same effect on the AW1600.
Just a thought.
