Hey
Noticed that I could use a footswitch (Yamaha FC5 or equivalent) for punch in/out.

Does anyone know if a Fender amp footswitch will work or if there's some other alternative to buying a Yamaha FC5?

This would be useful!

Howdy, Sloan

Well, I use the footswitch that's usually attached to my Stage-piano to control the G at times. I guess as long as it's a On/Off type of switch, it should work... but I haven't got any knowledge obout the fender one you use... but as you can't really damage anything: Just give it a try, I'd say  .

Hope this helped.

One word of caution. When the footswitch is installed in it's jack , one loses the ability to control the G manually. So unplug it when you want to push the record buttons. Kinda goofy but true.

Any 'momentary' or 'non-latching' type footswitch is the equivalent of the FC-5.

I believe most Fender amp switches are the latching type that go 'click', and these don't switch properly with the G. It's not because you'll pick up the noise.

Any momentary type footswitch will do. You really don't want to use a switch which would 'lock' on and 'lock' off. In other words, use a switch which closes when pushed, and opens when released.

I don't have that problem.

I have my footswitch connected permanently, and I use the controls manually all the time.

Are you using the Yamaha footswitch that goes with the G?

Strange. I have a foot switch that came with the yamaha keyboard, and another two that came with the yamaha drumpads. I think they are identical, but I'm not sure. I should try if it works on the G and, if connected, if manual operation is still possible.

Yeah after I posted that I realized I used two different non-yamaha switches. But others have had this problem as well. I have probably have 2 dozen footswitches in my studio but not the Yamaha one.

Most likely compatible, Robbie. I have an FC-5, which I got for my MT-120 cs 4Trk. Only good on it for punch-in/out start/stop. It's also the sustain pedal for my PSR-520, tap tempo parameter control for my EMP fx box. I haven't had the need with my G to do anything other.

I use a radio Shack momentary footswitch #44-610. Works great for punch-in/out. You will have to get a 1/4" adaptor plug or solder on a 1/4" 2 conductor phone plug to make it work. Cost is under $6.00.

Cool.
I might check that out.

I haven't been able to try the Fender footswitch yet. Probably won't work, but I'll give it a shot when I have some time and report back here...

FYI, the Yamaha FC-5's box says 'sustain pedal', but that was just its original purpose for PSR keyboards. Alternate model is/was an FC-4. It's the same pedal with a different number, just to market for other devices. Either can be had for 15-20 bucks at a GC or online.

There are some other generics to be used as sustain pedals with 1/4" plugs, like at Best Buy where they sell Yamaha or Casio keyboards, and these go for 10-12 bucks. Boss/Roland has theirs at stoopid prices, 20-25 bucks.
