Page 155 of the aw1600 manual says the answer is yes, you can upload aw16g backup files directly to the aw1600.

Hey Robbie - I cited a manual page number, just like old times.

I would try it first, before deleting any data from the G. Back up files will preserve all the mix parameters and undo files etc.and so that is a favourable option, but they are often multi disc backups for individual songs because of size, so things can go wrong I'd suspect (that is the pessimist in me speaking). The G can make wav>disc (which the 1600 can't), so you could do that for specified tracks and load to the 1600 through the Transport folder on the 1600's USB interface. You could also do a batch backup of just the (selected) virtual track wavs, with no mix parameters, using the 2816 backup option on the G. I am unsure if the 2816 option preserves the stereo track ????, you (or John since he is good at it!) can check for the page number in the manual.

I have a 16G and a 1600.

AW16G backup CD's only restore the audio files when restoring those 16G created CD's in a 1600. The mix parameters are not restored.

Utah,

But do the aw16g backup files include the mix data when you re-load them into the aw16g? I assumed that the files would include everything; am I wrong?

Randy

Song backups created in an AW16G using the AW16G format ( these song files will have the file extension -- .16g ) will reload all the mix parameters when the song is restored in an AW16G.

But, if you take a back-up file with the extension 16g that was created on an AW16G and load it into an AW1600, only the audio files (tracks) are restored, and not the mix parameters.

Thanks, Randy

Thanks for the info, Utah. The 1600 manual doesn't mention that limitation when it says 16g backup files will load in the 1600.

uh...I wonder where billyray went.

Hi JM -- it does on page 155, about half-way down the page where it says -- Exchanging Song Data with Other AW-series Audio Workstations.

However, like many things in the manual it's a bit obscure and not totally obvious.

Just below where it reads: Conversely, a song that was backed up by the other AW-series can be restored into the AW1600, you will see where it states: NOTE -- Only the audio data recorded in a song can be exchanged with the other AW-Series. Mix parameters, libraries, and system data cannot be back-up/restored in this way.

As someone that owned an AW16G for 5 years or so before adding a 1600 to my set-up, I can tell you first hand that I ran into the situation with my AW16G backups, and there were a bunch of 16G song backups that I had to remix because I wanted to import them and restore them on my 1600.

Thanks again, Utah. I missed that note the first time around.

No Problem.

When you think about it, it makes sense. While it's been a while since I fired up both and recorded, I don't think the effects and libraries are the exactly the same on both machines, which is probably why only audio files are restored.
