I have been drooling over this piece for a year. While the programming is quite over my head, once I do pull the trigger in the coming months, I plan to learn this thing. I want to program my own tones, play around with IR"S and have some fun. Hope to have it before summertime!

It looks mysteriously sexy, but I have no clue whatsoever what that is...

I bought the Line 6 HD 500X a couple of months ago and the modelling and fx are the closest and the best I`ve ever come across, I`ve used the pod xt live for years and in all honesty it does`nt even come close to the HD 500X, but the Helix is the "FLAGSHIP" so I would imagine it can only be an improvement yet again.

I bought an 11 Rack about a year ago (without protools) and could not be more pleased. I Run it though an old telefunken preamp and straight into the 1600. The vox amps sound best.

I've used the 11 software in Pro Tools 12 and some of the amps are really good, I particularly liked the Mesa Boogie.

I have been having so much fun selling stuff on ebay to pay for this Helix. It's just a game, but I like selling stuff I no longer use to replace with something I hopefully will use. Yesterday I shipped an old Tom Scholz Rockman. Today I'm shipping a 7 piece drum mic kit with cables and my Pod X3/shortboard and manual. All sold on ebay and I'm now $300 from my goal. I spoke with my rep at Sweetwater Sound and he said he'd make me a nice deal and I could pay using paypal.

As Grand Funk once sang: "I'm getting closer to my home!".

I got the Helix. I have learned more and programmed more in 4 days of ownership than I did in over 5 years with the Pod X3. For anyone guitar based who wants an incredible guitar processor, this thing has to be state of the art/top of the line. I'm sure some Fractal Audio owners may disagree, but for me, this thing Rocks! I've joined some facebook pages on the Line 6 Helix. Many gigging guitarists have done away with their amps and plug into the PA. Or they've bought a FRFR (Full Range Flat Response) Monitor. I've also learned new words like IR (Impulse Responses). The USB to my computer has allowed me to add custom tones from the Line 6 site as well as some IRs. You can also program preset sounds on the computer as well. It's like going back to school.

For me, eventually, I will be connecting it left/right 1/4" out and into the 2400. Right now I have it on my desk so I can continue to learn programming. I've created two presets so far and now I'm learning about snapshots, which is really great for bands.

The good thing is, I play something everyday and create something everyday.

That's the important part of the learning curve that new gear forces.

Oh WOW!!!

It isn't very often that I come here to read but I'm glad that I did tonight!

Ron, you hit a home run with purchasing the Helix!!!!!!

The Helix puts my Roland GR55 to shame.

That was confirmed when I did a bit of further searching and saw this.....

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXPHnJh7R8Y

The guy in that video dialed in Gary Moore's tone perfectly.

And for what it's worth.......old friendships never die.

just saying

look forward to hear what you do with the Helix

Marco is one of the regulars on the Helix facebook page. I believe he's from Italy. He puts a lot of custom tones on the Line 6 site for users to add to their open presets. There's quite a few Helix users who either offer free or sell custom presets that are rather amazing. I've never enjoyed a guitar/bass/vocal processor as much as the Helix.

Congrats RZ! The Helix is a serious piece of gear. I have the POD HD desktop and am pretty impressed by what that offers, so I can just imagine how much fun you're having with the Helix.

You mentioned Impulse Responses (IRs) in one of your posts. It's something I've recently done a lot of homework on. I'm running my tube amp out into a Suhr Reactive Load, straight into my audio interface. Then I choose from different IRs that have various cab/mic/speaker combinations. I'm blown away by how good these cabs sound. I've spent quite a bit of time recording guitar tracks with a 57 and a ribbon, and I've had some success, but after going down this road, I think it'd be hard for any home/project studio to equal the results of these IRs made in world class studios with the best engineers, mics, cabs, speakers, outboard gear etc.

More and more IRs seem to be coming available. Although it's strictly a matter of preference, my homework seems to point to these guys being at the top of the pile: Ownhammer; Redwirez; Celestion.

Well done RZ. Hope you will post some sound clips when you get your head wrapped around the Helix.

Not sure if these will work for you, but here's a boatload of Free IR's

I downloaded them to my computer and then thru USB I added 50 or so to the Helix. Been so busy at work, I've not spent anytime this week with the Helix. But it is quite an amazing machine. It will do way more than I could ever use, but I've already done way more than I ever did with my X3. That in itself is a huge accomplishment. I've yet to connect it to my 2400. Haven't quite figured out where I want to put it in relationship to the recorder.

Congrats on the purchase RZ; long time i did not check in. I have tried some of those processing boards and always found they sound good but killed the dynamics. Maybe the Helix doesn't suffer in that corner ?
I'm curious to hear it. Me i'm more into acoustic guitar but i've got gas too. Just bought a Martin. Now i finally know what a guitar should sound and play like. Its' begin me to write songs. Did someone say "The good thing is, I play something everyday and create something everyday." and "That's the important part of the learning curve that new gear forces".

I'm a believer...

They have since updated the firmware several times. With each update comes new cabs, fx & distortions. Here's an example at V2.0 (now up to v2.21)

Checked it out, sounds great. But at that price you expect something good. Any songs coming up ?

I still have my unfinished Beatles parody which is no longer a parody since we aren't doing those anymore. I had planned on using the Helix to record the lead solo since I never quite finished it. I still lack backing harmonies.

However, at this time, I am watching youtube videos on better understanding how to program and better yet, understanding which box to drop and which item to add in it's position. There's much to learn and not enough time between work, exercise, golf and family.

Oh and I didn't pay retail, but they now have a new lesser priced Helix called the Helix LT. Many folks are jumping on that item since it offers much of the same features at a much reduced price.

I can help out with backing vocals but i can't play lead like what you need. Here's hoping you find some time...
