I am thinking about buying an outboard reverb unit, something like a lecicon mx200.

Anyone have an opinion on outboard vs inboard aw1600 reverb ?
I.e. is it a waste of money to buy another bit of kit ?

I have an alternate verb with TruVerb on my y96K card, put out by wavs, in the slot of my 2400. the reverb on the 1600 and 2400 are the same (except 2 more effects busses) on the 2400, in my understanding. the verb is based upon the flagship desk from Yamaha, the 01v in my understanding. The Truverb is from Wavs and sounds great, but I also utilize the verbs on the AW regularly. So I would support the idea of more options, I guess.

Just as an aside, I had opportunity recently to spend an evening with a 6 channel, low end, low power amplifier/mixer. we used the reverb on that unit to to enhance a recording we were playing back from a good, portable recorder. The verb was very tinny and not really pleasant. It brought to mind how superior the verbs I regularly use actually are. They are quite tweak-able and you have full control of the pan. between these digital options I sometimes reamp through an amp to mic the spring reverb.

I have migrated to recording in the box now, but I have a MPX 100 sitting in a rack. It has some really cool reverbs, but also has a high noise floor, so you have to do some tweaking in order to get the best out of it...

It works pretty well in a live situation with a Tele or an SG (especially when the amp noise is louder than the MPX noise).

I will check out my files as I think I wrote down a decent knob set up to use...

How's things on the music front?

From my notes (remember this is for an MPX100, so I don't know if it will apply to the MPX200), but for what its worth;



Set the MPX100 to unity gain in the dry signal path as follows:

<Turn the MIX knob to DRY
<Send the MPX100 the loudest signal that you might use and set the INPUT knob to where you are just below clipping.
<Turn the OUTPUT knob up so that you have the same level coming out of your system as would if MPX was not in the chain
<Turn the MIX knob up to the amount of effect that you want.

I've read that the input level has to be very low or you will get digital clipping if the volume is high...

From what you both say, the yammie reverbs are pretty good compared with cheaper outboards.

Think 8 will stay with them for the time being.

One of my oitboard preamps just blew up so i will replace it.

Probably a better use of my cash

Music going very slowly. I am taking my time and trying to teach myself how to make good recordings by playing less and trying to get everything in the right spot. Usually it is about plauing less and paying more attention to details

Lyrics have dried up. Cant think of anyth8ng to say

Don't get me wrong, I love the MPX100... its just that dang noise.

What's your budget for a preamp? I've got a MPA Gold, which gets a lot of crap on the web, but for my money(which ain't a lot), it does just fine... I've actually read that you should replace the tubes, but I never bothered...

The Warm Audio is a good choice, I was originally looking at that but eventually decided on the Focusrite ISA One, which is well thought out with the connectivity and stuff, and it also sounds the business.
