Hi all
Haven't been on the forum for a while. Family life took over!!!
Anyway getting back into things and decided I want to get a smaller tube amp that will be great for home and powerful enough for any future gigs.
I'm looking at the Hughes & Kettner 18watt head and cab, the Ibanez either 15 or 30watt combo or head. There's also a blues jnr copy called sub zero.
I'm getting nowhere deciding so I wondered if anyone out there has had any experience with any of these amps or could suggest anything else.
Cheers
Les

Hey Les,
Nice to see you back around these parts.

As for amps, I haven't played any of those. My practice/studio amp is an old Fender Cyber-Champ. It's fine for basic's, but nothing to write home about.

I had a few minutes to take a work break and did some exploration.

This amp gets rave reviews and I have actually heard it's a good little amp. Plenty of feedback from users on this one

Hi and thanks for the quick response!
I have a bugera v55 and its great especially when I had some JJ valves put in!
I'm preferably looking for something 15/30 watts with switchable wattage so I can crank it up at home. Also a DI for recording would be great. The tubemeister 18 has this but its a bit expensive. I also have a Hughes and Kettner statesman which sounds great especially when I'm in a country twangy mood (which I am a lot lately!) But you need to crank it up to get the best out of it and its V loud!!!

Hi Les

I really rate the tweed Peavey 'Classic' amps. I used to have the 20watt version, and now have the 30watt version. Have used them live for years and never let me down and use them for recording a lot. Both plenty loud enough for smaller gigs when you aren't mic'ing up the amp.

I have a VHT Special 6 ultra head & cabinet.

Perfect for me. All tube, 5 watts to 1 watt. No reverb but it has an FX loop, which is fantastic.

The head sits on a stool, the cab goes in the closet & is miked up. family neighbours have nothing to complain about.

For something a bit bigger, I would go for a Fender Princeton or maybe a Marshall 1 watt head & cab. Pricey.

Special 6 is good and cheap

Yes I'm looking at the special 6 ultra. Some great reviews. Also looking at the Ibanez tsa15 and the Hughes & Kettner tubemeister 5 watt head. Problem is not being able to try any of these out before I buy.
Will just have to go for it I think.
The sub zero 20watt tube combo is also very tempting. Its a copy of the blues jnr I believe.
