My partner visited the other day, carrying an old, battered wooden case. She put it on the floor and opened it and inside was a Hammond Auto-vari 64 drum machine. Really good condition, sounds awesome. I can't stop playing with it. The build quality compared to modern stuff is astounding - very well made.

I just think that the older stuff is sometimes much better than the modern equivalents even though they can't be programmed, synced, and have a limited sound set.

Anyone on here had any experience of this machine?

Never seen something like that, but there seems to be a lot of info to be found through Google.

I love the look of it, even though I'm not familiar with it the exterior design brings me into a nostalgic state.

And, as I recently decided, nostalgia is a good thing.

Yes, nostalgia is a very good thing indeed!

I have been looking around Google and seen a fair bit about the machine now. I love old radios, and the thing reminds me a bit of one of those.

I have already started writing a song with it. It sounds really cool with delay or reverb. It inspires me to use organ sounds with it, which is understandable, because these things were designed to sit on top of organs. I do think though, that I need to check out some Hammond organ music. That kind of distorted sound, if you know what I mean.

I remember a radiogram that we had in our house when I was a kid, looked very similar to that.

When I was a kid we had these massive things with big chunky record players in, along with a wireless. They were like sideboards - there were compartments on either side that had doors on, where you could store your records. Awesome old things. I am drawn to things like that. They looked a bit like this:

That's a pretty cool lookin' bit of kit there, seedy.
