OK guy`s, when a guitar is plugged into one of the yammies channels, does the signal stay analogue to the output jacks if it`s not being recorded onto the yammies hardrive?
or is it converted somewhere along the line ?

Looking at the block diagram in the AW2400 manual, it would appear that the analog signal is indeed converted to digital regardless if the track is being recorded or not. The AD converter seems to be the last link in the input chain, with no alternate routes.

I don't have my manual handy, but the schematics diagram is at the back. As i recall the AD converter is right at the head of the chain.

5 minutes later >>>So - I quit being lazy - went to the studio and checked the block diagram. Seems the AD converter is just after the gain pot. but before the input select button, so it looks like you are into the digital domain right away.

I also looked at the block diagram for the 2400. I had thought that using the insert (Ch. 1&2) would allow you to bypass the AW's pre on those channels, but not so, as both the send and return are in line before the Gain pot. So< I learned something new too.
