I decided it was time to get back in the saddle (throne). Yep, I'm going to take the plunge and get myself a set of real acoustic drums (David you reading??).

For months now I've searched Craigslist and ebay for a good deal on a nice quality used set. I've passed on several that would have surely worked and the price was reasonable. But I'm looking for a deal on a special set of course. I've managed to sell my electronic set on Craigslist that adds to my drum funds which I've been saving up for many many months. Then I was able to sell a spinning bike on Craigslist and that put me in a good buying position.

I finally found what I wanted and after 3 days of crazy negotiations, we struck a deal on the 6 piece maple drums set(2 mounted and two floor toms, 22" bass and snare). The drums have relatively brand new heads and they've been professional tuned. There's no hardware or cymbals so that will be additional purchases. I'm scouring Craigslist for cymbals and have now bought most of the hardware. I have to tell you this has been so much fun putting this all together.

Here's the kicker, the guy lives about 4 hours away in Birmingham Alabama. We are meeting half way down hwy 78 tomorrow. We both leave at 5pm and will hook up close to 7pm. Only when they are in the car, wrapped in blankets and we are on our way home, will I know I got the deal.

In the meantime, I can dream and think about playing on a real set of drums after a 30 year hiatus.

That's great Ron. I think the searching is sometimes more satisfying than the deal itself.

The other part of the equation will be to learn mic'ing techniques. That might be a bit down the road. I have a mixer I can use as a sub in to the 2400. But I'll need to find a set of mic's and whatever else is needed before I can use them for recording. At the moment, once I get the drums in hand, then I have to find cymbals and gather the remaining hardware. It's a learning process for sure and one that I'm enjoying every step of the way.

Hahaha! I don't know why I like the color red. I just find it a nice warm color and red makes you wanna eat! That's why people paint their dining rooms red. Also, my 1st drum set as a kid was a red sparkle set so perhaps that's it.

Yesterday Natalie, Bailey and I drove down to Mississippi to meet the guy half way. We met at a highly traffic'd McDonald's and I parked on the side of the drive thru. I wanted that girl in the carry out window to see the deal. Well everything went smooth and the drums are more beautiful than I ever expected. For now they are sitting up in the room UN-assembled. I need a few things like cymbals and stands before I can start banging away.

However, in lieu of actual shots from my drum room, which will be forthcoming, here is one of the pix from his ad.

What a few days. I got the set as I mentioned, then Friday I received the two heavy duty cymbal stands and snare stand from ebay. I don't like the snare stand, but it will do for the time being. then I hit Guitar Center. I picked up the tom tom brackets, a hi hat and some inexpensive cymbals.

After careful consideration, I decided that the small room we made from a small attic would be the perfect drum room. It's just big enough for the set and I can throw up some wall sound stuff, there's no windows and its right across from my recorder. Once I get some mics and figure out how to adjust things, I'll be able to use the drums with future recordings.

Now that looks the dog`s bo**ocks, I like it.
You can also have an on off switch from the recorder to where you are so you can record without running back and forth.
My mate does that from inside his booth for vocals.
Excellent looking kit.

Hi, Such a nice drum set you share here and its really very nice to buy it. I just ask you where you can purchase this drum set because I also want to purchase this type of drum set. I also have one drum set but not its time to change this set and also I like always new instrument.

That is a drawing a friend of mine did way back in 1978 (I think). It's me on the left, the artist in the middle and another of our running buddies on the right. It was supposed to be a present for our other friend, but it got left behind when he moved from Memphis and now it's mine!

I imagine that you are simply salivating to mic it up and hit the record button.
