How is the room layout working out for you? I am planning to add an electronic kit to my setup...probably in about a year, and am trying to figure out how to make it all work. I had thought of something similar to your setup, but the problem is I do all of my other recording standing up (or nearly so propped on a stool). The best solution I can come up with so far is to build something of a drum riser to bring the drums up to the level where I can work the recorder while sitting in a drum throne but still record everything else standing up. My G is on a wheeled stand, so maybe have it set up so i can be rotated a bit depending on whether drums or something else is being recorded. Hmmm...at least I have a long time to figure it out.
I am loving this set. I pretty much have it adjusted to my liking. Still playing around with the module in adjusting sounds and levels, but that's ongoing. I did a fun project with stuff around the house to build a drum stick holder. I already had several left over clamps that the guy threw in the box. I used the back of a cd spindle to fit in the clamp, took a sports bottle, cut off the top and spray painted it black. Then screwed it together and tightened it up on the back leg of the rack. Yeah, I am really enjoying this quite a bit! Thanks for asking.
I am very pleased the way I have everything set up. It does tend to make the space tight, but in order to work and play, I had to make concessions. If I had one more foot of space, I think it would be absolutely perfect. I just completed my annual birthday song using this configuration and it worked seamlessly. Once I get in the circle of "doom" I am able to work the recorder, sing with the mic, bring in the guitars and bass, and turn around and play the drums. My new drum throne that accompanied the Roland purchase works terrific for all purposes.
As for an electronic set for you, depending on your budget, I would certainly look strongly at Roland. The sounds are excellent even though still processed. But very realistic for my ears. I especially love the Roland patented mesh heads. I got very lucky with my set as the guy built it from scratch. By him choosing a smaller rack system than the standard TD20 rack, it helped fit my space. The bigger rack would have been over kill and I probably wouldn't have had the luck with the room as I do now. So take all that in to consideration when choosing. And believe it or not, if you start your electronic drum study now, it could take you 6 months to determine which set is right for you. There are several nice sites out there with helpful info. Choose wisely.
